Fitbit Order Direct with Company and strange problem

Hubby and I have a Fitbit.  Our newest version had  a bad band (Fitbit Charge HR, so I called and they offered me a new one for a discount.

Nice deal, I  was given a code online.  I used the code and bought the new version for 25% off.

A few hours later my credit card company texted me a fraud message and asked me if I made the purchase.

I answered yes, then called them.  They told me the company had some sort of fraud and my card was denied.  My card was now safe since they WERE WATCHING (CHASE). Or I could cancel the card and get a new one.

Strange beyond words.  Anyone have this happen or anyone figure out what might have gone wrong.  I was in touch with the main number and my credit card was send online to them in payment.

Re: Fitbit Order Direct with Company and strange problem

BofA contacts me with potential fraud alerts if I spend more money than usual on things I don't normally spend money on in a short period OR if I start spending money in multiple transactions out of my own city/state.

Examples: I bought eyeglasses and sunglasses at Lenscrafters, then went across the mall to the Bare Minerals store and bought some makeup. It was about $700 in twenty minutes and triggered a call on my cell phone and a freeze on my card. I said it was me and they unfroze my card,

Every December I go to a craft fair in California - I live in Texas. I spend various amounts at multiple vendors in a short period of time and BofA almost always freezes my card. I can spend money on items in three booths and have my card frozen by the time I get to the fourth booth. A quick call used to get it unfrozen, but now BofA just texts me and I verify that it's me and my card is unfrozen immediately so I can buy lunch at the fourth booth.

I also had my account frozen when I bought my first computer many years ago, because I'd never spent that much money all at once before. That was before the banks used to call you and let you know they froze your card and I was SUPER mad because they froze my card and did not contact me, so my card did not work when I took a cart of groceries to the checkout. It was Sunday night, too. I had to drive home and get my checkbook, which I used once a month to pay rent, period, and drive back for my groceries. I'm glad they can handle it via texts now.

@ChynnaBlue  I'm also with BofA and after having had that annoying freeze put on my account at the most inopportune times, I finally got smart and now before I travel or spend big bucks, I always call them and let them know what I'm doing.  Sort of like reporting in to your mom.

FIY: We have a great arts & crafts show in Albuquerque with NM crafters only usually about the 3rd week of June.  It's closer than California.

Re: Fitbit Order Direct with Company and strange problem

I called the exact website that I found on Google.  They sent me a code to make the purchase online.  I had been communicating with them since the 16th of this month and  decided to make the purchase.  Next think I know the purchase was cancelled by Chase.

1.  Was the phone number real?

2.  Now is  my credit card info in danger?

3.  I have contacted Fitbit in the past and they have helped me

The total bill was $112.  I cannot imagine what happened and am worried that CAREFUL ME GOT TAKEN.

I called Chase and they said there had been fraud on the Fitbit account but would not tell me what.  I called my Lifelock and they told me to call them back in the morning and get a specialist.  I am just so curious what really happened.

Thaks, @Kachina624. My family all lives in California. I go to see them for Christmas, but I spend my money at the craft show, not their house, so that part wasn't relevant. Smiley Happy

Sometimes I report my plans to BofA and sometimes I do not, because it doesn't seem to make much difference whether I do or not, they still text me to make sure it's me. I have friends who bank with another company (I can't recall which bank or I would be happy to out them for this!) and they dutifully reported all the locations they would be out of the country on their honeymoon and all of the dates associated with each location. The bank still managed to freeze their card on day 2 of their honeymoon and they were stranded with just the cash they had on hand until the bank could reverse it for them. That was about 5 years ago, when it was not quite as easy to resolve as it is today, especially when you are in another country.

Re: Fitbit Order Direct with Company and strange problem

Issue resolved.  Called this morning.  What I was told:  Not my usual purchase and Chase did not let the card go through.  Strange since this is  my third Fitbit and one replacement, all on my credit card before.  Chase got online with Fitbit and the three of us got it straight.

The deal was soooo good I could not pass it up.  Because of a defective strap they offered me a great deal on the Fitbit Charge 2.  Could not pass it up.

@bonnielu Can you give us a review of the new Charge 2 when you've used it a bit? I have the Charge HR and I'm wondering if it's worth updating. The new ones look nice.
