My son has one and loves it. Not really geared toward his age group--he's already naturally active, etc. However, he's all about new techy toys and it was a gift.
I would really like one. But not sure it's in the budget this week.

Does anyone know why we need 3 bands? Unless I missed it, I don't understand why we would need 3 bands for the one device.

I have a $10 tracker and love it. No need to spend $$$ on a tracker. Crazy! I walk 5 miles every day thanks to my cheapy tracker!

None of them are perfect. And, bottom line, IMO, is not about having the exact number of steps one takes. It is about improving one's fitness level.
There are many different activity trackers & I think we should ll get the one that appeals to us. Whatever motivates us to be more active is working great.
The UP lost any votes from me because of the sleep tracker. I used the same sleep app as it does and found it to be useless.
Boy, am I out of the loop. I thought "Jawbone UP" was a joke, i.e., to stop eating instead of having to take so many steps. Live and learn, I always say.
The Jawbone UP is certainly not a joke. Google reviews.
Read a bit about it. My heavens, how is it possible that I never heard one syllable about it? Even if I don't use an item, I know about them. Oh well. Now I'm glad I am aware of it.

The UP24 analyzes and breaks up sleep the best within the app and shows you how many times you woke up, how many hours of light sleep you got as opposed to heavy sleep, and more. Just hold the only button found on the UP24 down when you're ready to go to sleep to put it in sleep mode. You can even set an alarm within the app and the UP24 will wake you up within 20 minutes of it based on where you are in a sleep cycle. The UP24 will never disturb you during a REM cycle. When it comes to comfort, the UP24 is by far the most comfortable. And as mentioned before, I had issues with the others coming off during the night which is something to think about.
The UP24 not only analyzes sleep better than the rest, it's by far the most comfortable to wear all night long.

I enjoy my Fitbit. Got it *FREE* with my Kohl's Cash that I normally spend on kcups.
It keeps me honest vs. a little bite of this or that as I try not to deprive my husband or 17 yr old son of certain items in the house just because I'm trying to drop a few pounds.
It has helped me lose the 10 pounds I've always wanted to lose these last few years that managed to turn into 15 pounds to lose. So now I have about 3-4 to go and I will be ecstatic with that.
I have it set to "normal" for sleep and most nights I'm @ 95% efficiency and it seems pretty accurate. I drink 64-80 ounces of water so I do get up most nights once or sometimes twice. I also log my water and my food. I have the Tanita scales and log the body fat % while not as accurate as a water weight measurement . . . better than not knowing at all.
I checked number of steps, then walked on treadmill, then checked steps and calculated based on # feet/mile and adjust my "stride" using those numbers. Then double checked next time I walked and it was right on the money.
I keep it on my right wrist as "dominant" hand although I'm left-handed to minimize normal hand movements while not perfect but nothing is. Just a little tweak you can do to help with accuracy.
I'd say IF it helps keep people motivated and moving . . . then good. Whether you choose Fitbit or another it certainly doesn't hurt.
Those that don't need it or want it, then that is good too.

I have the flex but there is so much mention of the Jawbone UP24 I figured I better check it out. After all, nothing lasts forever and I like to know what else is out there even though I love my FitBit Flex.
Unfortunately the Jawbone site states this about the UP24:
MATERIALS & CARE
Band: hypoallergenic TPU rubber
Cap: TR-90 Nylon, plated in Nickel
Splash-resistant, but do not submerge
Avoid excessive bending
The end cap of the "bracelet" is capped with NICKEL and I'm allergic to nickel. I know some of you are too.
Notice the UP24 is not something you can swim in, etc. They state to not "submerge."
The review link posted above includes a statement from the reviewer about the Flex, "it's very easy for them to snag on something and get ripped off." Not sure what would constitute "excessive bending" of the UP24 but if the people who claim the flex comes off if it catches on something I imagine they would have a problem due to excessive bending after they "rip off" the UP24 a few times.
For me the nickel and lack of waterproofing mean the UP24 is a no-go.

I'm allergic to everything, and I have no issues with the Jawbone UP. It also doesn't get caught on anything on me. It doesn't bend excessively either. I would never think of submerging mine in water. I would not think of swimming with a Fitbit or Jawbone. I love mine.

Sorry you misunderstood me about it catching on things. The reviewer complained that the Flex catches on things and also comes off at night. I'd like to see a video of how that guy sleeps. I've never had my Flex come off EVER and I wear it 24/7 for over a year now. My guess is he never actually had it on right. Now if he wanted to complain that it was more difficult to put on correctly I might say he has a point even though I can get mine on by myself
Easier than my Pandora bracelets ![]()
My point is that if the reviewer or anyone else is "ripping off" their Flex then they might be prone to "ripping off" their UP24. If so, that might constitute excessive bending. I haven't heard a description of excessive bending so not sure what that disclaimer on the Jawbone site really means. I didn't mean to suggest that you misuse yours.
I love my flex too, until the next greatest thing comes out. I'm fickle like that
But I abuse it wearing it everywhere and I don't have to avoid water. I take it off when I plan to get in water because I don't like to dry it off later but I know I can submerge it when I want to or when I don't remember to take it off. It was a big deal to my DS too because she has her own pool and is in and out, having parties, cleaning it, etc. She even fell in by mistake once! It's nice she doesn't have to take it off.
