I finally got off my duff today and my first shingles vaccine (out of 2 shots), plus the vaccine for "old peoples" pnuemonia.
I was told that the reaction to the shingles shot could be...intense--that's med-speak for "you might feel terrible". Oy, "they" weren't kidding. the shoulder they gave the vaccine in, hurts like hell and I don't know if I can keep a doctor's appointmen tomorrow. How ironic!
Thank God I have prescription pain medication because I think I'm going to need it, plus sleeping medication. At 72 I guess I'm officially "old" but I don't feel like it; I gues iit snuck up on me by surprise.
Has anyone else had the shingles vaccination? And what was your reaction?

I haven't gotten either but my aunts and sister got both the shingles and pneumonia and didn't have any reactions😳 but I've heard that many have.
How did you feel about the pneumonia vaccine? I'm a scaredy cat! (even though I had no qualms about getting the covd vaccine and booster). Go figure.🙄

Good for you! This vaccine is quite effective and shingles can be terrible and long-lasting. I have a friend who's husband recently got it along the nerve to his eye. Very dangerous.
I have gotten the series, and glad they have it! I did have a low grade fever for couple of hours, but took some Tylenol and no big deal!

I also had my first Shingles vaccine,,$182.00 as I had to meet a $500 deductible before insurance would pay. I had fever and chills (could not get warm) for 24 hours afterward. Medicare and my insurance would not pay for this shot, although we are all being told we HAVE to get it..Number 2 in another month or so..

Years ago, I received the original shingles vaccine.
Last year I listened to my PCP and got the two dose Shingrix vaccine. My doctor had advised me that I might have some negative effects. I had none with the first shot, but then did not feel too well after the second.
Ask me if I care? Not one bit. Hopefully I will never get a case of shingles. I have a friend who had shingles, and it was a thing we all would want to avoid.
Feel better soon!

I didn't have any reaction whatsoever to either Shingrix vaccination, not even a sore arm. Were you advised to relax your arm when getting the injection?
I've had several pneumonia vaccinations, the latest being Prevnar 20. None were ever called "old peoples' pneumonia". I'd refuse a shot if they called it by that name.

@PuppyLoverBob666 I had it some years ago. I need to ask my pharmacy about getting the 2nd one.
Hope you feel better but glad you got the vaccine.

I got the first shingles vaccine in December, and my second the end of January. The first was really painful. The second one was a little better, but still uncomfortable.

That's a JOKE...you know, humor.

@PuppyLoverBob666 I reacted to the Shingrix by feeling wiped out and more fatigued than I normally am. I didn't feel normal for about two weeks. Shortly afterward I saw my doctor for my yearly exam, and he advised waiting longer than two months to get my second dose. He actually said wait until closer to the six month window.
I hope you bounce back quickly. It is worth a few sluggish days to avoid shingles.
