My colonoscopy doctor was the one that told me more fiber too. I try to eat fruits and lots of veggies but I never seem to be able to get enough fiber.😩😩
It is frustrating to say the least.

My daughter had terrible stomach pains when she tried psyllium. She avoids it like the plague. If you try it for the first time, I would buy a small amount-it may not agree with you.

I take metamucil sugar free

Thanks for the input everyone. Unfortunately the SF Metamucil has ingredients I refuse to consume. I was contemplating either psyllium powder or flaxseed. Psyllium wins. I found a few options on Amazon that I need to evaluate but will order soon. I will take the advice to start slowly.
Thanks again. 😊

@SilleeMee wrote:I take this NOW brand of psyllium husk powder. It's 100% pure psyllium, nothing else. I buy their 12lb bag from Amazon. I take 1 heaping teaspoon in 8-oz of water after each meal. It says 12-oz of water is recommended but I don't use that much.
We used that for years and bought it in bulk also.
I like it to gel a little bit too.

My psyllium powder was delivered Monday. I use a food tracking app so I can see my daily intake. I plan to use it on an as needed basis. It's not so bad - knda bland, but I drink it down fast and follow with a little more plain water to make sure it all gets down before it turns to gel.

@SilleeMee The product you pictured is it a thickening product? I purchased that brand at the grocery store and no where did it say thickening -
OMG 1. I was surprised and 2. it was just awful! I am trying to lower my cholesterol and read that fiber supplement could help.
thank you

At my semi annual visit in August this year my number were higher for cholesterol. My Dr. emailed me and said to start eating Cheerios daily and no need for med.'s at this time. So I eat a small serving of dry Cheerios before dinner every day.
I have tried those fiber supplements several times over the past 15 years and I get so backed up it is unbelievable. I did them every time for 30 days to give it chance to start working and I want to tear my hair and everyone's hair out too. I stay away from them now.

Psyllium powder is a known thickening agent. When you take it as fiber supplement it's very bland. Psyllium is the active ingredient in Metamucil but that also contains stuff to mask the bland taste like sweetener and flavoring.
