I'm thinking about adding a fiber supplement to my diet. I take pre and pro biotics but my actual fiber intake is on the low side. Do you have a favorite?  Powder or Capsules?  Do you take it daily or as needed?

I take this NOW brand of psyllium husk powder. It's 100% pure psyllium, nothing else. I buy their 12lb bag from Amazon. I take 1 heaping teaspoon in 8-oz of water after each meal. It says 12-oz of water is recommended but I don't use that much.

My doctor recommended psyllium fiber.  I like the Konsyl brand as it has no additives, flavorings, or sweeteners or sugar.   Just 100% psyllium fiber.

It tastes a bit like plain oatmeal.  I mix it with ice cold water and just drink it quickly, all at once before it "gels".  It took a bit to get used to it, but I am okay with it now.

@SilleeMee

I am going to check out that brand as the Konsyl is becoming more expensive.  I like the pure psyllium with no other stuff in it.  Hard to find in my area and I always forget to look on Amazon!

Thank you so much for mentioning it!

My gastro doc recommended Benefiber powder to me 13 years ago, I use 2 teaspoons in 8 oz of water every morning. Also to save money I use Walmart or Walgreens brand, same thing, only one ingredient, Dextrin.

@4kitties

I use cold water also. I let it gel just a little bit so it coats the insides of my esophagus all the way down. That seems to help ease my indigestion and reflux, when I get it. I've read that people use it for that, too.

Hmmmm.  I have acid issues too and I had never heard of letting it gel a bit to help with that.  Thanks for mentioning that tip! I am also trying to get my LDL cholesterol down.

The doctor that recommended the psyllium to me said I could just take it all at once and I have been doing that.  But I am thinking it may be better to do it as you do, 1 tsp with each meal and not the 1 Tblsp all at once. Maybe that would be better for trying to get my cholesterol down?🤷‍♀️

I take some supplements with two of my meals and I was also thinking that it may interferewith that.   I probably am just over thinking it all.🤣

I would not take it as a dry powder b/c of the choking hazard it may pose. Always mix well into liquids.

I like Metamucil. It is psyllium fiber in a powder form. It's like an orange drink. Very easy to get down.  They have with sugar or sweetened wth stevia.  They also have in capsule form and wafer form.
