I have never taken anything with those high dosages like Andrew Lessman sells. I wouldn't take anything like that without a dr. recommendations.

Sadly, most doctors don’t know much about supplements nor have time to learn so they don’t know anymore than the average person in most cases.

@2blonde wrote:@Nightowlz You are very correct about doctors and supplements (the "in and out" thing). What I don't understand is, if they can say that about supplements, then why do theybother prescribing pills? I mean, why would they think the result would be any different? Your doc is out of touch with the times......even docs are now telling people to take vitamin D caps, among other things. I think it does help vitamin absorption when you take them with a good meal (not a couple cups of coffee!).
@2blonde I should ask the doctor that one. LOL!!! My doctor is only 34 so you would think he would be more up on newer things. I have never seen a doctor that thinks you should take any supplements.
When I had Shingles I told him I was using my TENS because it actually helped while it was on. He told me it was only masking the symptoms. I asked what do you think those pills you are prescribing me are doing?
I do take Vit D & have that checked every year when I have my thyroid tests done.
OK, so he said the TENS was "masking" the symptoms of your Shingles? Isn't that exactly what you'd want it to do?? I mean, there is no cure, so I'd think "masking" the symptoms would be the best you could hope for!

I have a friend who at the time was in her upper 60s. She told me her doctor told her to quit taking all her vitamins. I asked her why and she didn’t know but she compliantly went off of everything. I would never go off all my vitamins without being convinced it was necessary. Her doctor simply didn’t believe in vitamins. I could never go to a doctor who knows nothing about nutrition but ill-advises me. And if I didn’t know what I was doing I might be like my friend.

I use to work in a lab and perform many lab tests. One thing is for certain, blood tests are very specific for each substance being checked and there are very few substances that interfere with results. Diet is the most common cause of skewed results...not fasting in particular. Anticoagulant therapy is another testing area that can also be affected by certain supps and if you are included in this group then you know about what this means.
I might add that dehydration can cause abnormal results as well, particularly electrolyte chemistry and hemoglobin readings. Liver and kidney tests can also be skewed by dehydration. Liver enzymes can fluctuate with dietary intake of certain kinds of supps and these are usually stated with warnings.

Biotin supplements will interfere with thyroid function tests. I'm hypothyroid and had a thyroidectomy in May. My husband has used biotin for quite some time, and his hair really thickened up.
I was hoping it would help me with some hair loss that I've had since my surgery. But, when I looked up the contraindications, this issue was mentioned.
