3 years ago while taking a pan out of the oven, when I stood upright I noticed a floater in my left eye.  A rather large one.  Immediately saw my opthamologist and a retinologist who both said it was nothing to be greatly concerned about.  The floater would either dissolve or I would just adjust to it .  It has never gone away and it really doesn't effect my vision, but now I've noticed some smaller ones in my right eye.  I have my appointment in a couple of weeks but just wonder if anyone on these boards has a similar issue.  I don't have diabetes or high blood pressure.  Do they worsen over time?

I've had those for some time.  Now I'm sure the cataracts that were so tiny a few years ago now need to be removed.

It's time.  It's beginning to affect my eyesight.  Not looking forward to it.  Only because maybe 3 years ago I had a torn retina.

Getting that fixed was the most painful thing I've experienced.  I have had several major surgeries (double knee replacement at same time), major back surgery, and on and on.  Nothing compared to that torn retina getting fixed.

So....here we go.  I don't think the floaters have anything to do with my cataracts.

No, they get better over time.

I take a med that makes my vessels "leaky" , meaning I bruise & bleed freely, and get eye 'floaters'. Got a dandy in my left eye about 10 days ago. Was extremely distracting for about a week but it's slowly disappearing.

In the past I had a floater that persisted for years, but it finally went away.

I get them fairly often.  Some look like tiny bugs flying in my  face...I have even swated at a few that weren't really there.

Other times, they look like dirty oil with black flecks floating on water.  This type is distracting as they can be large. I usually see this type while reading.  I need a light colored backdrop to notice them....like white paper.  I have one of them in my right eye right now. It is large and getting on my last nerve.

My opthamologist said they are okay.  She checks  my eyes twice a year.  They can also be a sign of a detached retina...I did have a torn retinal that required surgery, but I saw no floaters around that time.

I understand they are quite common.  I have never had one that wouldn't go away.

My eye doctor said not to worry about them ... and they do disappear over time.

@Annabellethecat66  I too had my torn retina repaired on my right eye.  The doctor said my left retina will probably tear too...in time.  Due to a genetic eye condition I have, it is quite common.

I hold my breath everytime I think about it.  I hated that surgery more than any other surgical procedure I have ever had.  I wish they could use general anesthesia for it. I do not want a repeat on my left eye...no way!

I've had floaters for quite some time.  They are always with me and have not gotten any better.  My eye doctor said they probably would not improve and I'd get used to them.  They are annoying, but apparently there's nothing that can be done.

@Carmie I know....the pain...it was crazy...right?  It sounds like we are exaggerating or being overly dramatic, but unless you've had it repaired...

How about the way the Dr kept saying, "Don't look into the light?"  WHAT?  The freaking light is the only thing in your eye!

It was terrible....wasn't it?  Normally, I tell everyone their pain is different from someone else.  Don't listen to other people talk about pain....but when it came to this....well, you understand....

I have floaters in both eyes. Had them for a number of years. I'm 63. Mine are more like dark, cloudy hazy spots that are more visible when I look at something white or bright like my computer screen right now. They kind of move around and don't effect my vision, just annoying. I think they use to be worse but really when I think about it maybe they aren't any better now but rather just a matter of me getting used them so they just seem better now.

I also have been taking hyaluronic acid powder pure form and that might be why my floaters seem better now. Just cant' say for sure but I think the HA helps with other thing, too.

@Annabellethecat66 it was my worst nightmare and I am not a big baby when it comes to procedures or pain.

Don't want to go into detail because some poor unfortunate soul reading these boards might need the surgery in the future.

That said, I am glad the tear was found and could be repaired.  Luckly, I still have my eyesight.  That is the important thing.
