I let out a snort today when I heard a Host say, "Stretching IS exercise"!

I used to do some very intense sports, and I would spend at least a half hour stretching and warming up so I would not damage any muscles or tendons.

I stretch fingers, toes, ankles, wrists, elbows, knees, neck, shoulders, waist, arms, legs, etc., etc.  Stretching can be quite rigorous, and CERTAINLY it is burning up calories.

Dancers also do a lot of stretching before dancing.

You also have to be very limber to sit in some of those Yoga positions!

@KG60 Of course it is.

Does stretching count as exercise?

Every time you perform orchestrated physical actions with your body, you're working out. So, when you stretch, you not only prepare your body for the full workout to come, but you're also exercising already. Your body's moving and you're burning calories and that's all that matters.

Maybe stretch your torso, shoulder and neck areas regularly to help with your snorting respiratory response. Open all that up.

It is.

Is it all you should or need to do, No.

But definitely important, especially as we age...to help remain limber, but you need strength, and cardio too.
