I'm a type 1 and my bs goes up when I'm unusually stressed or when I'm ill. Work in some exercise and that should do the trick bringing it down. But you have to change your seditary lifestyle and do a bit of exercise every day.

Do you feel well? Often an unexplained spike in blood sugar will be because of an underlying infection or undetected illness.
Started a new bottle of test strips or new monitor that could be defective?
Something in your life is different--check all the details.Yep!!!!...been more sedentary, checked both monitors..same numbers..and I haven't felt well..I think its the heat. Its been so hot and humid here and I take my dog out 4 times daily..at least. Depression too...and stress..my test strips read the same too..darn it! Lol! This happened before..so I'm not going to stress about it..thanks so much.. I feel much better hearing from you and others...I love this forum!
Stress can definitely play a part in raising it. Especially constant stress.
If you're Type II and haven't been getting as much exercise on a consistent basis, you're either going to have to figure out a way to get moving more or reduce/change your diet until it gets back under control.
You can raise your medication levels, but for your long term health that should be the last resort.
Kudos to you for keeping such good track of your levels. Many people don't and suffer the consequences. Good luck and hang in there.👍

I'm sorry you're going through this!!..I do take my dog for walks, but it super hot here and he doesn't like it..me neither. Should cool down soon..I could so some exercises though..I used too..just got lazy!
I agree about stress too..been feeling very stressed since this virus nightmare started! What do you mean you raised your basal rate of insulin...you upped your units??? I thought about raising my lantus too..I use the pens and they are convenient, But...I seem to go through them quickly! I'll quit bitching now..lol!
I understand I have frenchies they can't walk in this heat at all. They will die. I however wake up early and go out in the Texas heat and humidity and walk. There are also videos to walk and other simple exercises. Some are free right now.
Because I'm on an insulin pump I only take regular insulin so yes I raise my units by small increments which is possible on a pump. Maybe talk to your doctor about upping your lantus a tiny bit. Do you spilt the dose or take it all in one shot? I split mine when I was on it and took half at 10 am and half at 10 pm otherwise I had lows in the middle of the day.
You have Frenchies??? SO cute!!!...and the Texas heat...I live in Kansas...probably about the same! I've never taken it in split doses...but I must admit I hate giving myself injections..so I take it all at once at bedtime..I guess its all trial by error. Wouldn't it be nice if they found a cure for diabetes??? My ex wouldn't give himself shots so he was on the pump. He ate whatever he wanted..(my boys kept me informed) he was 56 when he died. He also had a stroke during that time. His doctor called me and told me he couldn't get him to do what he needed to do..so he wouldn't see him anymore. Talk about stubborn!! I had given up on him too. I have a feeling men are more resistant to treatment..lol!

Lantus vials would be less expensive most likely. I wonder if the pen has lost its effectiveness due to heat. Stress can definitely affect numbers.

I used the Lantus vials for years..this past year I got a new doctor and she suggested the pens..I don't have to pay anything for them...they don't need to be refrigerated. I'm hoping my numbers will be better tomorrow...my flushing went away...we'll see! Thanks Tansy! ![]()

I no longer use Lantus, @emmygrace, but unopened pens need to be refrigerated according to the company's literature. The temp shouldn't ne higher than 86 degrees for an open pen.
I hope you are able to get your readings back down soon.
What great insurance you have!

I would call the Dr too as suggested. A family member ended up in the hospital last year with high numbers!

@emmygrace For me, a reading here and there of 210 wouldn’t be that abnormal. But for you, since you’re used to readings around 110 I can see why you’re concerned. This isn’t your usual.
I wish you the best.

I've been a type 2 Diabetic for about 15 years now. I'd suggest seeing your doctor and start being monitored. Pretty much every stress to the body can cause your numbers to go high or higher. Infection, a cold, mental stress from work, people .... yes, excercise is key and very important but watch your numbers there as well as excercise can cause your numbers to go much lower. It's a balancing act and having your doctor at the helm, helping you would be a good idea.... make sure it's a doctor who understand Diabetes. I had one believe that only food affected your numbers.
BTW, I started my journey with an A1C of 12. BS of 500. I was given Metformin and Glipiside and reduced my A1C through diet and excercise to 6.3 and have had a reading below 7 ever since. I've done it under a doctor's care since that first reading.
My best to you, good luck....
