Right there with ya, here a crown there a crown, eveywhere a crown. Whatever happened to fillings, all they want o do is crown everything, and now I have an infection under an old crown. Seven grand for me I guess. I feel dentistry is no longer honest.

Stands to reason, they usually take the tooth waaay down and do whats called a build up.

Yes I am at the stage to give up and just have dentures -- already have them on the top and they work ok -- think they may need to be relined or replaced.

Have had bed teeth since childhood -- had all my 6 year molars removed in grammar school and my teeth spread. Always ashamed to smile and open my mouth since they looked so bad. When I was in my early thirties, I had already had many teeth removed and the rest were breaking off. Was talked into having periodontic work and then caps on all my teeth and bridges. Worked for a while -- although I always felt they were too big for my mouth and that it was being held open too far. Anyway over the years they failed once or twice and I had to have them redone. Then they decided the top was hopeless and I had them all out -- probably only about 6 or 7 teeth by that time and a full plate. Fine.

However at this time all the lower teeth are decayed again and I suppose maybe infected. The caps on two of the teeth broke off so I can no longer wear the bridge -- only have 5 teeth and two roots left.

My feeling is that they should just take them out and replace them immediately by a plate. However the dentists I have consulted say I have to have implants instead -- I have moved too far away to ever revisit my old dentists. I feel I am too old for this type of dental work -- an in my eighties -- but they insist. I also have several health issues including sleep apnia which I guess means no anesthesic except novocaine and I don't think I could go through this type of work.

Have never had dental insurance. Also was told years ago that I was definitely not a candidate for implants. Am I justified at all in giving up and trying to get plates?
