I have one implant. I had a second abscess on a front lower tooth. After pulling the tooth, which already had an artificial post and crown due to the first abscess, my choices were a bridge or an implant. I did not want the healthy teeth on either side of the pulled tooth to be shaved down to be part of the bridge. So, I chose the implant.

The implant involves several steps with, at least, 4-6 weeks of healing between each step. I did need the dental bone graft. All in all, it was about a 10 month process that cost me about $5,000. My implant feels and looks natural. I have had no problems since it was completed. I would make the same choice again. (My experience was similar to MargieRJ's. #8 post above)

FYI...My dentist and the oral surgeon both offered Care Credit as a form of payment. This is a credit card that is used for dental, vision and even veterinary services that are not covered on regular insurance. Payments are then set up without interest.

I am in the year long process of two implants. I had a tooth pulled from a cap/root canal that was messed up from one dentist. Had to have the tooth pulled. Had to wait about 4-5 months to "heal", have the grafts, then they put the implants in - now it's August, then another 3-4 months for the tissue to heal, and now I am waiting for the final cap and bridge. So total, two implants, will be a bridge with three new teeth. Mainly the bridge is for the one tooth that will be between the two implants. This was an option, so it wasn't THREE implants. Not sure if I am explaining this well. And I did need two bone grafts, which is what added much extra time and about another $1000.

I did lose about a month (time wise) in December, because I wanted to have "SOME" more of it covered under 2014 dental costs. But will still cost me about $4000-$5000 out of pocket. Our dental coverage is only 1500 a year, so that doesn't even cover one. I hope it is worth it. But the ordeal is one year, but could have been closer to 10 or 11 months. BUT - I have not had ANY pain in any of the procedures. All I can say is I hope it is all worth it, because I have had a big space in my lower left jaw for almost a year!

I have an implant, no bone graft necessary with it. Would have been total out of pocket, including crown, about $3500. Have had no problems at all.

Chessylady, the worst part is over - the tooth extraction & bone graft. I had no problems, either. For me, each step for here gets easier and easier. A little was covered by insurance, but the total for extraction, implant, and crown was about $7000, all said and done. A lot of dentists in my area have a way to do payment plans.
