Re: DO YOU TAKE CO Q-10 REGULARLY?

The only educational requirement on nutrition for traditional physicians is ONE CLASS. ONE CLASS in their entire medical curiculum!!! Therefore, it's safe to assume that probably most do not have robust knowledge or background in this area. Having said that, I'm sure there are doctors that continue their education and selectively learn more about various topics.

Registered Dieticians' (RDs) entire education and continuing education is based in nutritional science. This is their sole area of expertise.

I totally agree that we are our own best advocates. We all have different outcomes and responses. And, luckily, we can access peer-reviewed studies on our own to do research. Healthy skepticism has always served me well.

@Q-Checker

It's well known that doctors from our generation were taught nothing about vitamins and supplements.  They also were taught nothing about how to run a business ... a medical practice.

They were just taught to be doctors.

IMO, we all should be our own advocates and do research on health-related matters.

Even when I'm prescribed a new drug, I do a lot of research before I start taking it.

Personally, I wouldn't take any medical professional's word on something and not research it.

I call that common sense.

JMO, of course.

@michellegirl - my husband and I heard this 45+ years ago.  What a shame that nothing has changed.

100mg of ubiquinone are in the multivitamin I take. I know that's not the better type but it's something, and ubiquinol is pricey.

Re: DO YOU TAKE CO Q-10 REGULARLY?

I decided to start taking ubiquinol once again and not b/c I'm back on statins but b/c I wanted to see if it would help boost my energy levels. It's been almost 3 weeks since I started taking it again and now I'm convinced it does help make me feel more energetic. I no longer feel like I'm exhausted by mid-afternoon plus it seems to be helping reduce joint pain. Must be the anti-inflammatory effects of the ubiquinol. I'm happy about that part.

Thanks so much @SilleeMee! I am not taking any of that right now. I have horrible supposedly osteoarthritis issues with my hands and cannot find anything (that I am willing to take) that will touch the pain. I will give this a shot!

Re: DO YOU TAKE CO Q-10 REGULARLY?

The only vitamin or supplement I take is Vitamin D3 which was prescribed becuse my levels were extremely low.  I stay out of the sun because I am fair and burn, within minutes.

I don't take any RX drugs at all.  CQ10 is found in many foods.  For most people, they can get sufficient amounts through their diets.

Most of the supplements people take are a waste of money.

I'm not "most people". I have malabsorption issues plus with my older age, my gut isn't what it used to be when I could get a lot more out of the food I ate when I was younger and healthier. These days I have to take supplements and even those don't get fully absorbed either unfortunately. I have a difficult time keeping weight on b/c of my poor absorption of food.
