Re: Constipation stemming from medication - suggestions, please

OP: What is causing the nausea in the first place? Erasing that issue will clear up the constipation, yes?

My doctor recommended things like prune juice and pear nectar. Works great.

Kathleen....I LIKE your doctor! Instead of prescribing this or prescribing that, your doctor chose food. Nice. Reading all these responses before me has me oh, so concerned. We have a pill for this & a pill for that, prescription here, OTC there....I mean, geeez...we can't even "sheet" naturally anymore. What's up with that??! Food HAS to be the answer.

Cascara sagrada. Cheap, effective. Been used by American Natives for centuries.

Read about it. You can buy it everywhere, any vitamin store, supermarkets, internet.

Enjoy!

Re: Constipation stemming from medication - suggestions, please

In November had a colonoscopy where the Gastroenterolgist recommended a new, easy, cramp free and simple prep procedure. It should help with the constipation. Instead of the Fleet saline solution used 8 yrs. earlier, all I had to drink over a 4 - 5 hour period was an 8 oz. container of Miralax mixed with 60 oz. of Diet peach Snapple: No cramping, no diarrhea, just a simple prep.

I use Miralax when needed, and if I'm in a pinch, a big glass of milk will work within the hour.

Dried apricots will do the trick, if you don't want to take any more meds.

I eat a couple of dried prunes. Usually 2-3 will do the trick.

I would ask the pharmacist where you picked up the original pills.

Re: Constipation stemming from medication - suggestions, please

You've received some good product advice. Please know that what's in there now has had most of its moisture removed through reabsorption in the large intenstine, which is a normal occurence in the large intestine. It's just that your stuff has been hanging around for a while.

Once things get moving a bit, eat chocolate, prunes and caffeinated drinks (if they're allowed), all of which will increase the motility of the smooth muscle of your intestines, which will further help move things along.

I hope you get relief soon!

You can also try this herbal medicine-

Or drink hot lemon water when you first get up, and that should help get things moving.
