Re: Constipation stemming from medication - suggestions, please

Our Doctor recommended for my husband who also has this problem, Doc Q lace(Docusate Sodium) 100 MG softgels and they work great for him, he takes two a day. If it is a chronic problem for you its probably best to see your family physician and ask about this product and what dosage would work best for you.

There is always the Fleet Enema and also something I used years ago which was Glycerin suppositories. Both of them worked well for me. Here is a link if you are interested in reading about them.

When it comes to your diet, constipation and FIBER, keep this simple rule in mind:

Maybe someone mentioned this but my vote for prunes. Individually wrapped in a plastic tube. Delicious!

Phenergan does that to me when I have to take it for migraine nausea & retching. If the constipation does not clear up, you may need to give yourself an enema. This usually clears the blockage. If you still have no relief you need to contact your doctor.

Brown sugar works wonders. It was suggested by my doctor and my family has used this method for years.

Miralax or prune juice, a small glassful or one or two prunes. Drink lots of water.

Magnesium OXIDE is the only type of magnesium that "works". Changes in thyroid hormone can cause this, and medical specialists sometimes forget to test, thinking that other medical personnel are doing so. Be sure to ask if you are a woman over the age of 35.

Very expensive RX called Amitiza. Bye the way, when children have diarrhea, pediatrician s put them on the B-R-A-T Diet: bananas, rice, applesauce and I've forgot ton what the T stands for, but this stops the runs because these foods are binding. Keep trying Miralax or a couple of prunes. I'd call the doctor, since you were sick before and there might me something specially used when the other medicine you were on causes constipation. You will need a script for Amitiza, anyway. You could also speak with your pharmacist about this. They know their meds.
