Don't take any herbal remedies without checking with your doctor. For instance, Smooth Move contains licorice which can interfere with certain medications and raise blood pressure.
Yes, anyone on Meds should check with their Dr's....Good advice !

After years of seeing drs and hearing most of the suggestions mentioned here- I discovered a bit of microwave popcorn at night makes the following day 'right'. In fact, I think I'll make some right now!!

My doc recommended Miralax. This is what they use to clean you out for a colonoscopy only you don't use that much. It works

My father had this problem as a result of all the meds he was on for Parkinsons and Alzheimers. We found that prunes and prune juice in his diet every day helped a lot, he loved prunes so that made it easier. Just an idea.

They have medication for this. Ask your gastro dr. about it. I think there is a new one, too. Linzese or something like that. It is for chronic constipation.
I, too, struggle with this. I know how uncomfortable it can be. It really makes you feel horrible.
I take a stool softener a lot. Just any kind will do. It is not a laxative, just makes it easier to go.
Any time I take even so much as an aspirin, I get bound up.
I tell you what really helps me --- get a bag of dried fruit --- make sure it has prunes, apricots, and things of this nature in it. Eat quite a few pieces in the morning when you get up. You might even try this with a cup of hot tea. This really seems to help me.
Also, I try to eat a salad and a fruit bowl every day. If I miss and start eating poorly, then I really suffer.
The doctor recommended Miralax for me but it did not work very well. Citrusel worked better but you have to take it constantly for it to do anything.

Have you tried ground flax seed? I drink a Tablespoon a day in my almond milk. It has Omega 3 and helps with your problem also.

Cereal works for me.

This is for real: sugar free gummy bears. If you read the fine print on the package, it states it may have a laxative effect on "sensitive" people. But they certainly do get things moving, so to speak. They taste good too. If you want to read some funny reviews, check out A mazon's site regarding this item. Too funny!
