I had my 1st Endoscopy in about 2002. I had zero symptoms, and the main reason for my getting it! My brother-in-law had Esophageal Cancer. I had not 1 single symptom of anything. My Endoscopy results:

1-GERD

2-Hiatal Hernia

3-Inflamed Esophagus

4-Barrett's Esophagus

Had an Endo every 3 months for a year. Went to having them every 6 months for 3 years. Then went to an Annual Endo, which I am still having.

I started taking Nexium right after my first Barrett's Diagnosis. My dosage has always been a 40mg tablet 2 times a day. I have been on it's, generic(Esomeprazole) since it first came out.

Still have never had a symptom of any of the above. If the Barrett's had not been diagnosed in 2002? Chances are pretty great I would have gotten Esophageal Cancer, and then???

My 16 Colonoscopies and 5 Double Balloon Enteroscopies were because of my massive Colon Bleeds, never any polyps found. It just took them forever to find where I was bleeding, and that was finally found by the first Upper and Lower Double Balloon Enteroscopy. Lower takes hours, not minutes.

My best to you with your issues,

John, I am in dispare this morning and since yesterday.

I have had many colonoscopies, the last one just about five years ago.  They always found one that could turn into cancer, but was OK when they removed it and was just starting.

I had ask for another, but because of my age 86, they sent a cologuard kit.  I got a postive result and called the gastrology dept.  They were very understanding and scheduled a colonoscopy, next Friday the 3rd of Feb.  I am so worried. On top of worrying my sons are arguing as to who will take me to my appt. No family support as usual, except my sister in WA. who is calling everyday to boast me up.

The Dr. asst. tried to reassure me that it could just be the polyp would be removed and OK, because of my pass colonoscopies.  I'm glad I decided to ask for one and didn't ignore the last Dr. saying no more because of age.

I guess I'm just asking for prayers to be OK.  Thank you.

Hi to @qvcaddition

I won't address your domestic issues here other than to say this. Find a way to get where your Colonoscopy is to be performed.

If you had a Colonoscopy 5 years ago, the odds of it being cancerous are pretty slim. I would be surprised if the results are much different than your last procedure. As far as the Cologuard results? Just forget about them.

As for your Colonoscopy, you will be fine. My thoughts are with you now and in the future. Wishing you the best with your other issues.

Your friend,

Thank you for the encouragement.  I have both drivers set now.  One son taking and another picking up.

We spoke today and they were sorry.

I looked at my last record March of 2018 and it was good.

Your words gave me hope.  Thank you.

@qvcaddition  @hckynutjohn  I could be wrong but I thought it took more than five years for polyps to appear. Have you ever heard of this?

My immediate family all has cancer.Dad died of esophagus cancer, brother died of pancreatic cancer, mom had colon cancer (note: FOUND IN A COLONOSCOPY AT AGE 83)...they operated a month later and she had no additional treatment and lived until 93 and did very well on her own.  Please get a colonoscopy.

My brother age 82 has esophageal cancer and I now have diverticulitis with an abscess and having surgery in March.

From all the studies I have seen, and speaking with my Gastro doctors. It is pretty much agreed that for polyps in the Colon to become cancerous, is about 10 years.

They say it's not unusual to find polyps sooner, but any time a Colonoscopy is done, the polyps are removed and biopsied. Of those they say it is very, very rare to find them to be malignant.

NO.  The first time, I had three.  One could have been cancerous, but removed.  Then went back in three years.  Again same.  After that, went back every five years  Last one removed, was less than .5cm. Gone.  Will be five years this Nov. and the last Dr. said no more colonoscopies.

Only reason I called my Dr. and wanted one was because of this year hearing of all these people dying young of this cancer.  I was not going to do anything, but decided to be proactive.  My age against me for kind of test I wanted, but I push the Drs.   If it is there, it should be in early stage if at all.

I don't care what age a person is, death is not something I want through cancer.  Sounds silly, but I still enjoy life and have a little dog that needs me. I know, silly, but how I feel.

I am a little more relaxed this morning.

Nothing you said sounds silly to me. Still enjoying life and your furry family member that needs you? I can say pretty much the same, except we have 4 furry ones.

Glad to see you are feeling more relaxed this morning.

I have an appointment with my Hematologist tomorrow morning. Pretty much to check all my blood readings. Since my Congestive Heart Failure diagnosis I am taking more meds, which can possibly change some of my readings. Hemoglobin/Iron Ferritin, and Potassium are primary for my Hematologist, and to my Cardiologist.

Enjoy your day,

@qvcaddition  no it does not sound silly. From what I have read from your Posts you have been doing everything right. I would not be able to keep up with all the things you do. Every once in a while I would look to see how old you are.

Have you heard anything about the Prep as yet? I'm counting down the days with you. It will be here soon. What I like about this, is that you get the results right away. We'll be waiting to hear the good news.

@Sage04

Thank you for you support and everyone. I am very anxious.  I just spoke to the Gastro dept, they called me to confirm.

I asked them to tell me what my last one said and it was OK.

It's hard at my age and I am a strong person, but this is wearing on me.  I will pick up my prep today.

Having trouble with this Kaiser pharmacy.  I ordered it, but still pending, so I will go to the pharmacy today and if they don't have it will drive the 20 something miles to were the procedure is being done and get it there.  I don't start it until Thursday.

One son picking me up and the other will be waiting in the waiting room.  He lives in that area, we don't.

Anyway, they have come through for me.  My sister in Wash. has called everyday and sometime twice a day.

It's just hard living alone with being so anxious.

I did a lot of yard work during the last week.  Pruned a lot of rose trees and bushes, trying to keep busy.

When this is over, I will have a party of one.  I do not see how I could have anything wrong.  I did everything right as far as colostomies every 5 years.

I will think positive and the man upstairs has always carried me, so my faith is strong, though I don't go to church, just read the bible everyday.

My sister who is 56 said my boys should go visit a nursing home and see how 86 year old people normally act.  She is a care giver in a home and said, you are an exception. I credit my 60+ years if exercise and still do it.

The boys think I am losing it, but I'm just anxious.  I'm still very self sufficient.  Just got a blow to the stomach.

Thank you so much.  I will get back.  I will be OK.  Just the next few days will be a challenge.

John has also encouraged me, so writing on here has helped a lot.  Thank you

@qvcaddition  I wish you well for your colonoscopy.  I just had one

less than 2 weeks ago along with endoscopy.

I have GERD and Barrett's and so have a hard time with the prep in keeping it down.

I would like to offer you a suggestion to make it easy.  I hardly eat 3 days before.  The little I do eat is "no fiber".  That is white bread with some butter once a day.

When prep days comes it's a breeze.  I only can tolerate half a gallon of the prep at most and I always come out clean and fine.

There is very little left in my system doing it this way.

God bless, this too shall pass.... Smiley Happy
