@Pink123

I had my 1st Endoscopy in about 2002. I had zero symptoms, and the main reason for my getting it! My brother-in-law had Esophageal Cancer. I had not 1 single symptom of anything. My Endoscopy results:

1-GERD

2-Hiatal Hernia

3-Inflamed Esophagus

4-Barrett's Esophagus

Had an Endo every 3 months for a year. Went to having them every 6 months for 3 years. Then went to an Annual Endo, which I am still having.

I started taking Nexium right after my first Barrett's Diagnosis. My dosage has always been a 40mg tablet 2 times a day. I have been on it's, generic(Esomeprazole) since it first came out.

Still have never had a symptom of any of the above. If the Barrett's had not been diagnosed in 2002? Chances are pretty great I would have gotten Esophageal Cancer, and then???

My 16 Colonoscopies and 5 Double Balloon Enteroscopies were because of my massive Colon Bleeds, never any polyps found. It just took them forever to find where I was bleeding, and that was finally found by the first Upper and Lower Double Balloon Enteroscopy. Lower takes hours, not minutes.

My best to you with your issues,

Thanks @hckynutjohn.  Since my stomach biopsies last week I have been so nauseous which is normal, like having ulcers. It's getting better today, almost one week.

Ok, I think I will take 40 mg Prilosec at night for a bit. I have great insurance, but unfortunately the generic prilosec does not work for me. I have to purchase it over the counter which is made in Sweden I believe.

Thanks again.

The threads on this subject sometimes surprise me.  Just about everyone I know does the Cologuard thing every single year.

Just to be clear, I'm not saying don't get colonoscopies, but what about all the other years in between?  No Cologuard?  Nothing?

Re: Colonoscopy

@Tinkrbl44  I agree.  Colorguard is good but it can also be mistaken for hemmerhoids, bleeding ulcers, etc.

They need to look inside, end of story.

It's the least preventable cancer for those who do get tests timely.

PS. If you cannot tolerate the prep stop eating 3 days before.  Just no fiber.  White bread with butter, a little rice, etc.  It's not that hard.

Canned green beans and such can be added to.  The prep is so  easy then.  Almost nothing.

Cologuard is not very accurate. Most GI docs do not recommend it. During my anesthesia career, I worked very frequently in the endoscopy suite. Granted , they might be a bit biased. The time frame is based on your polyp history , how many were discovered and the approximate growing time of polyps. Also the pathology…. what kind of polyps. Some people just stout them quite frequently. We’ve had people come back as often as every few months. If polyps were taken out it usually is every 3 years. None than 10 years. Obviously, if any changes in bowel habits or bleeding, call the GI doc.

Why would I do a Cologuard in between?  Polyps take years to become cancerous, and with Cologuard? I would do just as well flipping a coin, heads I am positive, tails I am negative. Just as accurate as a Cologuard.

So NO, I do nothing unless my Colon starts to bleed again. Does that mean I have Colorectal Cancer? No, for me it means, my Colon is bleeding again.

Now for someone that has never had a Colonoscopy and sees blood in their stool? Best to see a Gastroenterologist ASAP.

John, I am in dispare this morning and since yesterday.

I have had many colonoscopies, the last one just about five years ago.  They always found one that could turn into cancer, but was OK when they removed it and was just starting.

I had ask for another, but because of my age 86, they sent a cologuard kit.  I got a postive result and called the gastrology dept.  They were very understanding and scheduled a colonoscopy, next Friday the 3rd of Feb.  I am so worried. On top of worrying my sons are arguing as to who will take me to my appt. No family support as usual, except my sister in WA. who is calling everyday to boast me up.

The Dr. asst. tried to reassure me that it could just be the polyp would be removed and OK, because of my pass colonoscopies.  I'm glad I decided to ask for one and didn't ignore the last Dr. saying no more because of age.

I guess I'm just asking for prayers to be OK.  Thank you.

I am having one done Friday the 3rd.  After all the years of being OK, the cologuard test they gave me because of age, came back positive.  Needless to say, I am worried and scared.  I kept up every 5 years with my coloroscopies.
