Haven't had a cold sore in decades--but I did in my 20's-30's. I was taking Lysine too, but it did nothing. I even resorted to a drop of peroxide on the dang thing --yikes!! Not sure what made them stop--thought it might be a combo of choc and peanutbutter--used to have hot choc and peanutbutter toast every a.m.

Whats the best way to get rid of those **** painful things?

I bit the bullet and in order to dry it up put salt on mine

and let it burn. Helped a little. Spit the salt out.

That stuff U can buy at store is expensive. Stress, causes them, but, it's weird how an event that is not

as bad as others can trigger one.

Like you, I have the same problem.  Been very stressed this week and one broke out last night.. I ordered the anti viral med my Dr. ordered. In the meantime, I dabbed Neospoein on it.

I tried to get my FNP to call in a prescription for me on Friday. They wouldn't answer the phone !  Why, I don't know.  So, I had to Dr. myself.

I got a **** canker sore not cold sore. I thought they were the same. LOL They call them a 'ulcer' on your mucous membrane. I've been upset over changing

Drug plan /Part D. I blame Aetna !

I just had to go get Oral-Gel at Walmart.

@SharkE

Outside of prescription mouthwash, I am not aware of a doctor prescribing anything for a canker sore inside the mouth.

The Zovirax mentioned in my earlier post is an antiviral that works specifically on cold sores caused by an outbreak of the herpes zoster virus.

@SharkE  I purchased a pack of round patches (if the sore is on the outside of  your mouth) from A. They are about the size of dime and they stick on and you really can't see them. Leave it on for a day. You must put it on as soon as you feel the tingle/itch. These are the best of all the items I have tried.

I don't get cold sores often but I just use a cotton ball with alcohol on my lip several times a day.  A dentist did give me a prescription years ago but can't remember if it worked.  The alcohol seems to work for me.
