Shingles is causes by herpes zoster, not herpes simplex which causes cold sores. Same family but not same species.

I remember reading Patty Duke's autobiography years ago and she said the stress of a new role always brought on a huge cold sore.  She said when she starred in Valley of the Dolls, she had one so big it looked like she had lip injections on one side of her mouth. They just covered it up with makeup.

I've never had one and I hope I never do.  I have stress.  I get stressed (very easily!), so fingers crossed.  I let my stress OUT and let everyone else enjoy it, too.  lol

My sister use to get them worse than I did and her doctor had to give her a scrpt for medicine.  Turns out, if I leave it alone, it goes away quite quickly.

I used to get them quite often when I was in my 20's - 30's, I used to put an aspirin in a spoon with little water to melt and make a paste then apply it on my cold sore several times a day it drew out the pus, this old remedy worked for me.

I get them every so often, THANKS MOM!!  mostly from stress.   I use docosonal, Abreva generic when I feel the tiny hard bump on my lip. Abreva brand was so ridiculous expensive when first available.

I have some Zovirax tablets, huge like horse pills, hate taking them.  They work, but make me feel yucky.

All that stuff like Blistex, Carmex, Ora-gel, Campho-Phenique NEVER worked for me.

Best thing to happen was  Denavir topical. Now the generic, pencyclovir avaiable, still requires Rx. 

My sister does not get them.

Just bought Ora-Gel at store that says Mouth Sores.

mine is on inside of mouth not outside ! Yay ! for that much

I've had Shingles shot. 

Mine last around 2 wks. Hard to drink from a water bottle

and to swallow pills.  Thanks Dr. office !

Stress from trying to change drug insurance. What a hassle! Talking to  talk to people U can't understand. No wonder I got a cold sore.

Cold sores are on the outside, on the lips.  Canker sores are inside the mouth.  Ora gel might work on the inside sores, but are not too effective on cold sores.

I just happened to be watching our local news yesterday that some toothpaste can potentially cause mouth sores, not saying this is your problem but worth checking out.  There is a certain ingredient in toothpaste such as sodium lauryl sulfate (SLS) that can contribute to development of canker sores in the mouth.
