Re: Casper mattress

[ Edited ]

@goldensrbest: Our master bedroom mattress is going on twelve years and no problems (it's a Serta pillowtop with two inch memory foam on top).  I think the 8 or 10 years and replace is a mattress company hype; ours usually last closer to 20.

I'm pretty sure I'm going to get the Casper queen bed. The whole set including the mattress, foundation, metal bed frame, delivery and set-up, and old bed removal will cost me $1600.  I will be dealing directly with Casper.

They will warrant the bed to be odor-free and if it isn't they will take it back and replace it at no extra charge.  They said this happens only rarely . . . but we will see.  As long as they replace it, I will have nothing to lose.

Neither I nor any of my daughters would be able to put this bed together, so it is worth the extra cost to me to have them do it all.  By the way the delivery, setup and old bed removal is only $150.  More than worth it.

I have done a ton of research, and after I saw what that Sleep Number queen mattress cost last night, which didn't count any extras, it kinda made my mind up for me.  Thanks to QVC.

I will be ordering in about two weeks.

@Cakers3

Read my post of today.  That will explain . . . they will do everything including taking the old bed away.

@tansy

Yes, Tansy.  My daughter's 9 lb. chipoodle (or something like that) still lives!  He is 11 years old, has no teeth, and only goes out when he has to relieve himself.  She has him checked monthly for any signs of bugs of any kind . . . after all, she suffers from Lyme Disease as the result of a long ago tick bite and there is nothing in the world that occupies her mind more than ticks, fleas, etc.

That said, I never have close contact with him for other reasons.  He's a sweet little guy, it's just me.

I don't have a Casper but I do have a Tuft n Needle which is also a bed in a box type.  I love my bed.  So, ddon't be concerned about the bed in a box type.  I did, however, get a Zinus metal bed frame from Amazon for about a hundred.  I believe most of the beds in a box have the 100 day sleep guarantee.  Mine was super easy to set up, I did not need any help at all.

@lilypadfrog @LilacTree, My brother and nephew just purchased 2 mattresses from Tuft & Needle and love them. Queen sizes for less than $600.00, I'm getting one for myself too.  Good luck in your search @LilacTree!   Heart

@Sueliz

I researched the Tuft & Needle, as well as other foam mattresses, and other types of mattresses as well.  Consumer Reports rates the Casper as very high for back sleepers (which I am) while they rate the T&N as only "middling" for back sleepers, although they do rate it as a CR "best buy" (as they also do the Casper).

So I am paying $375 more for the mattress, but am getting all the other pieces and services I need from Casper.  I did not talk to T&N as I did Casper . . . but perhaps you can tell me if your purchase included all I am getting from Casper.  It was the back sleeping lower rating that determined it though, so if you have no problem with sleeping on your back, then you surely did get more of a bargain with purchasing that brand.

I’ve certainly heard of Casper, but just took a look at them on Amazon.

From the pictures they show, it’s too low to the floor for me. It looks like I’d have to look up to the nightstand, look up to the tv. Again, from the looks of it, I think my aching knees would have trouble getting out of the bed and into a standing position.  Way too low.

And the reviews I read didn't look so hot. No way would I want to get a cumbersome mattress home and then figure out how to return it.

Which is why I’ll continue to buy mattresses locally. I want to try out any mattress I buy.

@gidgetgh

You would have to buy the foundation and the metal frame.  In my case, that trio measures 24 inches.  I couldn't use just the mattress either, as I couldn't get that far down on the floor.  I don't think it's possible to buy just the mattress and put it on the floor.  It's only about a foot high.  Maybe for the very young or the very agile.

Re: Casper mattress

@LilacTree- when I looked at the pictures on Amazon, it just showed the mattress on top of the frame. It didn’t show anything under the mattress. I didn’t research any further than that.

And I just googled and every picture is just the mattress with the frame. That’s why I made my comment originally about being too low.

Why is it, when I have a 50/50 guess at something, I'm always 100% wrong?

You have to call Casper directly and see what perks they have to offer.  Obviously, I took the whole package they have available which is additional pieces and full service.

It's possible that if you buy direct from Amazon, they cannot offer anything but the mattress and frame.

I hope you like the new bed, @LilacTree.  Did you consider finding an adjustable base for the mattress?  I know that can be pretty pricey.  I plan on ordering one this month online and a latex mattress.  Hopefully, it will make me more comfortable at night.

Yes I considered it for about a minute.  Would love it, but no way I can afford that . . . I'm already $600 over what I planned to pay (because of the extra products and services).  I will be receiving a new 0% for 18 months Citi card in a week or so, and that's when I'll purchase.

If I'm not more comfortable within 100 days, I'll send it all back.  The only cost they won't refund is the delivery and setup cost of $150.

Fingers crossed, as always.
