My doctor put me on CIPRO  for an ear infection but i think i have Shingles.  I've had bad head and neck pain on left side for almost 2 weeks, my left ear is red, swollen and painful and ther's a wierd scab just inside my ear where it dips in.   So painful!   He even saw the patch in my ear where a scab formed.

On Cipro for 2 days now, i can't sleep, nervous, jittery. i'm stopping it, after the dose i took at 9:00pm and it's now 2:00AM

Dr says oh yes make sure you have yogurt or something to help with your gut flora and get Pepcid for heartburn !  NO no no not with Cipro. No calcium!   ugh i'm really bummed out how could he get this so wrong!

@CatsyCline  so sorry you are not feeling well. I'm not a doctor but I had shingles  several months ago despite having both shingles vaccines. I experienced terrible intermittent "stabbing" pain on the right side of my head and a rash on the right side of my neck. My doctor put me on Valacyclovir antiviral meds and Hydrocodone for the severe head pain. My symptoms resolved within a week or so thank goodness. I wish you all the best for a quick recovery if it is shingles. I think having the shingles vaccine kept my symptoms from being much worse so I hope you have been vaccinnated

@CatsyCline It made me totally goofy.  I had to get off of it when I took it many years ago.  My mother took it a few months later, called me one day and said "I'm standing in front of the refrigerator with the door open and I don't know why.  Is it that medicine?"

Yep!

When i got shingles on my face the urgent doctor said i had to go to my Ear, Nose, and Throat dr PRONTO ( I had one thankfully ) he said to tell them on the phone that i had developed shingles in my face, they WILL fit you in. Shingles near the nerves of your ear can lead to deafness ( dont mean to scare you as it is not automatic but that it can).

I had an allergic reaction to Cipro.

Do you have an allergy to penicillin ?

Cipro is a broad spectrum antibiotic and is quite effective.   You really need to eat when taking it as most antibiotics will cause nausea on an empty stomach.

Sorry you are not feeling well @CatsyCline .  You should call the doctor and get another visit.   Sounds like it may be something other than an ear infection??   Best wishes.

Both my daughter and my niece landed in the ER with heart palpitations from it.

Re: CIPRO!! Horrible

[ Edited ]

I was prescribed Cipro back in 1995 for a sinus infection and I was allergic to it.  My skin was fine but after 45 minutes of taking it I would be on my hands and knees panting like a dog trying to breath.  It is a horrible drug.

It's hard to know in advance how a body is going to react to medication. CIPRO belongs to the fluoroquinolone family, and a MONSTER drug to metabolise. I have it on my "allergic, do not give me" list. The side-effects can be horrendous. I wish you well and good health.
