Re: CDC: Ebola Worst-Case Scenario Has More Than 500,000 Cases

i think people are best off listening to their own medical advisers on these issues -- who knows whom to believe on these boards??? i do think there is a difference between knowledge of how one gets ebola or how to treat ebola - and real questions about how a man who was manifesting, had been to a hospital, was allowed to return home, and consequently expose the people he came in contact with to ebola. some of those people are children. clearly we are not totally prepared to deal with this or it wouldn't have happened. we should be asking questions.

perhaps the CDC better work a little harder on a protocol and communicate it to all hospitals because what happened in Dallas should never have happened. now kids have been exposed. that is no laughing matter.

If I were a health care worker I would have made it my business to know about this. There were countless notices by the CDC.

And they *are* being taken note of. The doctors I work closely with do not "treat" patients in person for the most part, but they do oversee laboratory tests of every type. I have noted several of them printing out CDC Ebola information to have as it relates to their jobs and sphere of influence.

from what i read the information about Liberia didn't get to the "people making decisions." in my business when there is a matter of urgency from the regulators we don't get a notice: we get a notice to attend a meeting - mandatory - and have to take an exam to be sure the info was absorbed. but it does puzzle me how the attending medical type would have missed the African accent - which might have led to more questions when diagnosing.

There are people returning from Africa who have an American accents
:
My daughter has some white American friends who returned
about 2 weeks ago from a religious mission...
;
My daughter's husband was supposed to conduct some business
with that husband, and he confided in them that he was on his way
to Africa and that they will get together on his return..
:
Many Americans & Europeans work in Africa because it is
opening up at a fast pace.. The oil companies there see thousands
of people from the USA & Canada... The few times my husband
went to Africa was for his German company..

Ebola is treatable in our country, please don't forget that. Actually, most people do not die from the Ebola virus, but rather from the side effects such as diarrhea, vomiting, which leads to acute dehydration and electrolyte imbalance and such.

If you can treat the accompanying symptoms, you can eradicate the disease. The problem in third world countries is that they just don't have the proper medical care or personnel to do this.

Fresh water is vital to do this as well.

We don't have much to worry about. Just be aware of the symptoms and I think anyone in America would seek medical care if they were profusely bleeding from their skin, which is a big symptom.

Banning people is ridiculous.

We aren't discussing the bubonic plague here. lol !

I can't believe most of the remarks here. We live in the safest, most advance medically, healthiest country in the world here.

I suppose most of you panicking still feel the same way about AIDS ? Should we shut down airplanes if someone with AIDS flies on them, and put the ambulances out of order as well ???

I can not believe the ignorance still in this country.

If you are afraid, or not knowledgeable, your first line of defense is to educate yourself !!There are thousands of sources and resources everywhere. Don't remain uninformed and then go around making ludicrous comments.

UPDATE

Excuse me Once upon a time we used to live in one of the safest countries when folks had common sense to come in out of the rain...

Re: CDC: Ebola Worst-Case Scenario Has More Than 500,000 Cases

They say there were at least 18 people who were in that apartment and at least 5 of them were children. These children went to school. Some of the schools in Dallas are now being investigated.

The NIH Dr just said at least one if not more of these people will come down with this virus.

Up until this morning these children were in class. Three different grades. They finally took the children out of the classroom and they are being WATCHED.

This just goes on and on.

Can you imagine how nervous you'd feel if your young child went to those schools and were in their classroom.

They are identifying the man, where he lives, etc. In this day and age everything is out there. Whether you like it or not.

I'm glad it's out there, I knew it would be a matter of hours while I was watching that Dr when they first announced it. He was like, "We are protecting his identity". Come on, really? It's not their fault. It's no one's fault. It's the age we live in.

If you watch regular TV you never get all of the information. I watch several different cable news stations.

I'm tired of filtered news.

Re: CDC: Ebola Worst-Case Scenario Has More Than 500,000 Cases

Hello Java.....was wondering where you were. We often think alike....I don't believe anything anyone says. I listen to all of it and decide what I want to believe.

I'm lucky, I don't work so I'm not out in the public unless I want to be (sometimes I don't go out for days). My family is out there and I worry about them.

You are very wise. I often think you are ignored too often. I don't think you believe everything you read either, do you?

By all means, lets spread more hysteria as well as ebola. Quarantine is apparently too politically incorrect to consider so we have to allow EVERYONE in. I need to get a cabin in the middle of nowhere. We are truly ridiculous. Stop flights into and out of affected areas. Period.

If you go over and get sick. Get treated there. No patients should be allowed back. If they are aide workers they should understand the risks. ONLY this will contain it. Some healthcare worker somewhere will make a mistake and forget to do something and it will infact spread until we start getting tough with allowing people from the affected countries in. Even at the turn of the century Ellis Island had a quarantine for people to show they were over their illness before being allowed in.

Ironies of ironies didn’t I just see a thread supporting a care giver who didn’t want a vaccine that helps prevent her from spreading the flu to sick patients in the hospital? Now that is something that scares me.
