I get it from dr with a prescription.   It's Diclofenac Sodium Topical gel which is brand name Voltaren.   Costs $5 for the same Voltaren that I was pay quadruple the price.

I have the prescription for that but my insurer won't cover it because it's the same as otc Voltaren.

Omg!  I cannot believe that after years of pain, my doctor just prescribed Voltaren last summer.  Why didn't my rheumatologist or pain control specialist tell me about it?  I can't take nsaids because of my Afib so my pcp suggested Voltaren.  It significantly reduces my knee pain.  The only downside is that it is otc so my insurance won't pay for it and it's a little $$.

I am very confused here, you cant take NSAIDs, but you use Voltaren are you aware that Voltaren is one of the strongest NSAIDS on the market?

I had a prescription for diclofenac before it became available OTC and it was great.  Now of course, being available OTC, my insurer, like yours, will no longer cover it.  Still, it's worth it IMHO

It is an NSAID, however, your body handles it differently when applied topically than how it handles it taken orally.  Same with CBD.  I cannot take CBD internally because of my glaucoma, but I can use CBD oil topically without the adverse affect.

True!  This is why I do not self medicate.  I'm not a physician or a pharmacist so I don't know all of the many drug interactions.  I think people forget that supplements are indeed drugs, they might be natural and but they are drugs.  Turmeric can be problematic too because the dosage in those capsules is not standard, it can vary.   I remember a teenage girl in the hospital I worked in got very ill by taking turmeric.  She wasn't overdosing, she was following the instructions but she was like 90lbs and when the hospital lab tested the capsules, many had 3 times the recommended dosage.  She was overdosing without knowing it.  Supplements are not regulated.

I coordinate all supplements I take with all my Drs to ensure that they are safe for me.  In addition, because of them being unregulated, I have a subscription to "consumer labs" - they regularly test every label on supplements and report on the accuracy of the labels and the actually ingredient levels and effectiveness of the formulations.

Happy for you, but the topical still carries many of the same NSAID side effects.

@chrystaltree

You can get generic Voltaren at Amazon, it's called Diclofenac gel & is less expensive.
