Bunion surgery...Podiatrist or Orthopedic Surgeon?

To those of you who have had bunion surgery, did you use a podiatrist or an orthopedic surgeon for the procedure? How did you go about picking your doctor? I'm a bit new to the area and have asked some of my neighbors, but I've not had much luck finding a solid recommendation. I can see where podiatrists likely do much more of this kind of surgery day in and day out. But there is a case to made for a board certified orthopedic surgeon, as well, I guess. Any thoughts??
