I had a mastectomy just over a year ago. So I now have my left side reconfigured. I thought after a years time my skin would get used to wearing a bra. Well, all my bras dig into my armpit, right where the arm and the body meet.

I keep trying to pull the bra out of my armpit but it goes right back.

Does anyone else have this trouble?

Re: Bras and Post Breast Cancer

Congratulations to you for going through your cancer treatment.

You may want to check out a site called "Jodee."  They can send you a catalog just for bras and accessories for someone who had breast cancer.

I don't know if that will help, but my little sister ordered from their catalog.

Good luck to you; I hope you find what you need.

YES. Mine bunches up no matter how many times I pull it smooth. It rolls right back up. I have tried dozens of bras.  All the same.

The previous person recommended Jodie. That store only sells bras that fit a prostheses. I don't think there would be any bras that would solve our problem there. I am assuming yours was reconstructed, as mine was. If it wasn't, then check it out.

This is the first time I have ever read someone else having a problem like this.  I wonder if there are others and, just maybe, someone found a solution.

But im 22 years cancer free, so that is a minor inconvenience, and I am thankful.

Good luck in solving this.  If you do, please share it with me.

Re: Bras and Post Breast Cancer

I purchased 3 SOMA  mastectomy bras, all cotton, to wear until my surgical area completely healed and felt better.

Afterwards, SOMA will give you a discount, if you donate gently used clean bras, on your next purchase.

SOMA also has lovely boyshorts in cotton. I dont work for SOMA.

Go to your local NORDSTROM and be fitted for the bra you need!! They have people there that are specialists for breast cancer matters. You may only need to do that one time as maybe you can find a bra on your own and if anything is wrong with the fit after you get it home and wear it , Nordies will do whatever to make it right!!! Does not cost one cent for that service. I have no breasts due to cancer so I go every 6 months for new bras and once a year for prothestics.  I will not be going thru recon either so I mostly live flat-chested. My insurance pays for 4 bras a year and prothstetics once a year and I only go to Nordstroms. Tried to order from Jodee and it was a waste of time as nothing fit. You will need RX from your dr for bras. And even if it is for what you have and not the extreme like me, it's worth a try.

I was "reconstructed" but I also wear a prosthesis. I was reconstructed when I had the mastectomy. So the implant is smaller. I did not want to go through the complete reconstruction so I decided to get an implant and a prosthesis.

I was fitted by a store that only sells products for breast cancer people. But the one bra that only digs into part of my armpit is mostly nylon trim and irritating, I can not hook it up by myself. Someone has to hook it up. The other style I like (front closing) go right into my armpit. Just like all my regular bras. But thankfully they are softer (93% cotton) so they are not as irritating as regular bras.

Another problem, I have no idea what size I am now. The breast cancer store has completely different sizing. And besides I am now a B cup on one side and D cup on the other.

As you said it is a minor inconvenience. I thought my skin would toughen up by now.

I guess I should try Jodie, Soma and Norstrom's. Maybe they have different styles that would be comfortable.

The store I go to, the lady only uses oe supplier for her bras. Maybe it is time to see what elese is out there.

Thank you, Ladies.

Re: Bras and Post Breast Cancer

@drizzellla- glad you are a survivor!!  I know the pain well!  Bali makes a bra that is comfortable for me, it is called Comfort Revolution and there are a few different styles.  You can see them online at HerRoom, or almost any department store has them to try on.

I have to get the molded cup style now because I ended up so uneven and that kind of bra helps.  I still put in a light bra insert on my smaller side and it works well.  They are the most comfy bras I have found so far, very soft.

Wishing you well!

There is a site called Her Room that might have a bra that will work for you.  You might want to take a look.
