My culture showed e.coli, which is the least dangerous bacteria in UTIs.  E.coli = Macrobid/Macrodantin.  The NP prescribed Macrobid, which, as you said and I read, should not be prescribed for women older than 65.

I am 81 and have rheumatic and other diseases.  The NP either is ignorant of that or doesn’t care.  I’m taking it anyway and so far haven’t had any side effects.  I’ll let you know if that changes. (Or my survivors will, ha ha)

It’s amazing what supposed medical professionals don’t know.

@LilacTree I am glad you are able to take the Macrobid as the doctor told me it is the most effective.  I had e-coli bacteria as well but had a serious reaction to Macrobid and Macrodantin.  I actually figured out it was the medicine that was making me sick.  Chills, high fever, fatigue, weakness, and heart palpitations.  I went online and found out the symptoms I was having, were side effects of the drug.  I had to call the doctor and tell them to take me off Macrobid.  The doc ended up puting me on Cipro-500.  Hope you will soon be rid of the infection!

Thank you.  You too.
