@katie1859, My daughter and I both have lung issues.  My mother's father had asthma, and the suffering was immense in those very old days.

Best thing you can do is to find a specialist who is both well-versed in modern meds and has a real commitment to their patients.  Modern medications are excellent.  I just have to avoid being out in very hot and humid weather - otherwise I live a normal life, as does my daughter.  When we push it too far, you can get quite sick.
