Sorry to hear about your "bump in the night" experience, Lilac Tree.  I am getting so I need to keep a light on as I have had a few close calls myself.  You're post made me realize I need to get serious about it.  I am glad you're daughter is around to help you.  It can get pretty frustrating when the pain piles up on you.

I would love just one day a week without pain.  I would plan so much for that one day.  Yes, my daughter is helping me right now, cleaning the wall and the carpet.  All I could manage to do is pour cold water on it.

Re: As if I needed more sources of pain

I have to be honest.  It was stories like this that made us kids get together and to have conversations at which point do we decide that it is no longer safe for mom to be living alone.  This has cost you 4 to 5 days in bed?  This sounds like more than just a regular walking into the wall bump.  I hope you are feeling better.

I went into the kitchen for something to drink four or five nights ago.  As I left the kitchen, I put the light out and proceeded to walk down the hallway.  Instead I walked right into the opposite wall full force.  It felt like a Mack Truck.

The contents of the glass went all over the wall and carpet, but fortunately I did not drop the glass.  I hit square in the middle of my upper chest wall and right breast.  The area is still very sore and tender and I've been pretty much stuck to my bed ever since.  There's really nothing much that can be done except rest and wait for it to heal.

It was stupid of me not to put the hall light on, but I have been doing this ever since we moved into this apartment.  This time I miscalculated.  There has been no one to help me, thankfully my youngest daughter is able to come over today.  The other two were away all week.

I will be using the hall light from now on!!

I always have a heating pad near me, so that I can just turn it on when needed.

We have those solar-powered night lights that are on all of the time.

You don't have to manually turn them on. They are supposed to turn on by themselves when it starts to get dark enough indoors, but with the way that the lighting is inside here, they stay on all of the time.

We have them all over, especially in the bathrooms and in the hallway.

They do make quite a difference, especially when you need to find your way to the bathroom.

They cost just a few dollars a piece, and you can pick them up anywhere, in the lighting dept./housewares section of most stores.

I hope that you feel better soon. I know what pain on pain feels like. Sending you some gentle hugs.

The part about being bedridden for 4 or 5 days after your bump into the wall went over my head the first time I read your post. I realize being older myself that we take longer to heal as we age. But we also break things more easily as well so if you aren't feeling any improvement by now perhaps it's time to have yourself checked out. Better safe than sorry. Here's hoping you feel better as each day passes.

Night lights are your friend .....  and it's better to have too many than too few.

So right! I just put one on my store list for later this week. We don't need missteps and stubbed toes and bumped noses, etc. Small price to pay for prevention!

I can't tell you how many times I've gone to the bathroom in a hurry (because I'm comfy & cozy and i keep procrastinating hoping I'll fall back to sleep) in the dark middle of the night, I know the route there and back by heart, but when I leave to go back to bed I've smashed my face into the edge of the halfway open bathroom door. OUCH! That sure wakes me up.

Oooh!   I am thankful I didn't hit my face!  I guess I lead with my chest, LOL.  Still bruised, I'm a little worried about the breast, it's swollen and I'm afraid of an infection.  I'm too old for an operation which also could lead to an infection.  I don't think I could fight a MRSA infection because of my autoimmune issues.

I am thinking that too.  I was hoping it would get better faster.  If it gets worse, I believe that could mean infection (in the breast) and I fear that most of all.

I also have autoimmune diseases and very advanced RA, so any injury becomes extremely painful, and I am having more "accidents" lately.

I do not live alone.  One of my daughters lives with me, but she was away all last week.  I don't think she could have been of any help anyway.

If it continues to get worse, I will see my doc.  I'll wait a few more days.  The bruise on my chest is healing (getting yellow) but my breast seems to be getting worse.  It's worrisome.
