Re: Anyone use prescriptions for chronic constipation such as Linzess, Ibsrela, Trulance, if so...

@rockygems123   I have IBS mixed  type.  I manage both with food only except there are times when I need a Colace clear so I take one.

I eat 1 Kiwi, 5 prunes and about 1/2 cup of sauerkraut each day.  I also take 250 mg Magnesium Citramate at night.

Do you have more intense dreams with magnesium?

I noticed a siginificant difference when I started taking it.  A friend said she switched to taking it in the mornings but went back because she missed the crazy dreams ha.

[ Edited ]

Everyone is different. I have had chronic bowel trouble for years (since my 40s IBS)  I am now 75 and have diverticulitis, too

I have tried so may things over the years...8 glasses of water a day, every laxative and stool softener, psyllium, digestive aids, probiotics....so much nausea and pain. I have just had a pelvic and abdominal scan and it shows no blockages.  I don't have a gallbladder and have heard that can play into bowel trouble. Next will probably be a

colonoscopy if Linzess doesn't do the trick. I have been feeling better on the Linzess but have only been on it for a couple of weeks.  The mid dose was too much for me so I am on the lowest dose every other day now. Over the years I have had to go to the emergency room several times when the pain became more the I could bare.

I said a prayer for you...I know how  ill one can feel with this. I do think exercise helps somewhat.  Everything else (even Miralax) stopped working for me. I'm hoping and praying this Linzess will keep working.

I do have intense dreams sometimes but I also take Ashwaghanda at bedtime so I always attribute the dreams to BOTH these products.

I have had luck with smooth move tea but I only have issues sporadically not anything constant. I hope you find answers.

@AngelPuppy1

Walmart has a very good generic stool softener.  I take it just before dinner and have great results.

My late husband had good luck with Miralax powder mixed in his orange juice every morning but he was taking medication that caused constipation as a side effect.

I don't take anything for constipation but alternate days between regular (not instant) oatmeal and yogurt for breakfast.  In the oatmeal, I cook it with dried cranberries  and/or apple and mixed in the yogurt, peaches or pears.

Apples, peaches, pears and dates are good for preventing constipation.  I don't focus too much on fiber as too much fiber can cause constipation in some people.  I have never noticed any benefit to me from probiotic capsules.  I do make sure to sip on water throughout the day so I am not dehydrated.

The caffeine in coffee and tea will stimulate the bowel.

ah yes the weight loss drugs. Alternating between constipation for 7-10 days or explosive liquid stools. Very very inconvenient. Going to try Miralax daily to see if it will help regulate things.

I read that up to 23% of patients on tirzepatide complain of this and some stop taking the drug.

Thank you - I appreciate it!  Yes, it's not a fun thing, I can tell you that.
