Anyone experience with prf treatment

I decided to have a tooth pulled instead of redoing a root canal. My dentist wants me to have prf treatment which I have never heard of. Apparently they take your blood and inject it into the area where the tooth was extracted to help heal. First it sounds hurtful, and 2nd it seems it costs around $500. My instinct is to skip it, but I am wondering ir anyone has had it and the results. Thanks.

I had a few PRF treatments when I went through bone grafts prior to getting implants. My blood was taken, processed, then mixed into the graft material and placed into my jawbone. Nothing to it really. Dentist called it "sticky bone" b/c it adheres to the jaw bone quickly.

I haven't heard of it.  Unfortunately though, I'm too familiar with tooth problems lately.  Is this procedure done prior to an implant or something?🌸

The dentist wants to do this when I have a molar extracted.

I've had molars extracted, along with other teeth.  Never had any special treatments and everything healed just fine with no problems ever.

I'd save the $500. for something else.  Sounds like a money grab.

@geegerbee

It's common practice to have a bone graft done whenever a tooth is extracted. The reason is that the graft will help prevent bone loss which can affect adjacent teeth and the general structure of the jawbone.

Whenever a tooth is lost or extracted there is accelerated bone loss in the area where the tooth was. Jawbone gets smaller and sometimes weaker depending on other factors. Tooth extraction w/o a graft can cause the teeth next to the extracted one to get loose. Bone grafting will help prevent that.

Did your dentist mention bone graft? Even w/o the graft, PRF will help heal and protect the extraction while reducing pain/swelling.

I'm getting to the end of a dental implant procedure.  Had a tooth extracted 7 months ago.  Never heard of PRF.  Will find out tomorrow if the area is healed sufficiently for a  tooth to be inserted.  I've had several extractions and, as I said, never heard of this treatment.

Never heard of this before. My husband will be getting an implant later this summer and his endodontist never mentioned him needing this.

I've had this done with my dental implants.    Your blood is spun in a centrifuge, and the resulting "paste" is packed into the extraction.    It acts as a bone graft, but with your own blood product.

@cheriere ---Me too--with the teeth issues!! Geez----my teeth have always been just fine until I went thru chemo for 5 months in 2012---after that--nothing but problems--no one tells you that your teeth probably will be affected!!! Woman Frustrated Not horrible awful problems, just lots of minor annoying ones, like almost every 6 month check up , I would need a filling---  Just yesterday--went to the dentist for 2 crowns--1  was a replacement and one a new one, due to an old filling,  then got  another filling as well. All on the same side--Was there for 3 hours!!! Got another old crown to be replaced in a few weeks too. Stupid teeth!!!!
