My granddaughter returned to college last weekend and already has a cold. She drove home for the three day weekend, since USF is only a 90 minute drive away. My other granddaughter returned to middle school and, despite a flu shot, is very sick with flu. I feel so bad for her. She is hurting all over, has no appetite, and is upset about missing so much school. As her grandmother, I just care that she recovers.

Sea Maiden, I feel your pain.  It’s no fun.  I haven’t had a cold in years but came down with one about 12 days ago.  I don’t remember them lasting this long.  I've hardly slept – can’t breathe and coughing – even though I take cough/cold medications.  I’ll be glad when this thing is gone.

I can't remember the last time I had a cold.

Please take care of yourself.  I read somewhere that you can't get the same cold twice.  

Everytime you get one, it's a different strain.

I wash my hands a lot and never touch my face.  I have a phobia about public places.  Germs on handles at the grocery and handrails and doorknobs.... I never eat anything unless I wash my hands first after looking at a resturant menu.

I think this helps... it works for me.

A bad cold since Thursday. No fever, just a raw nose!

My DH was sick with sinus/respiratory issues shortly before Christmas. He was kind enough to give it to me on Christmas Day. Finally better, but still have a cough. It's been going around and lasts about three weeks from what I hear. This crazy up and down temperatures here aren't helping. Feel better soon @SeaMaiden and everyone else struggling with this crud.

@SeaMaiden, in one of the flu shot threads you said your diet and supplements had protected you so you hadn't had even a cold in years. I think you jinxed yourself or maybe you need to kick your DH for jinxing you. Shame on him! 😉Hope you feel better soon. Colds are a pain.

@spindlegirl  YUP!   First cold in three years......  Today about day 4 I am feeling much better. My sore throat is gone, the tightness and mucus in my lungs clearing up, nose less runny.  I have been going heavy on the zinc and elderberry extract.  Caught this one in the Bud and it never turned into a full fledged cold.   

Now I feel ready to fight off any flu bug as my immune system is REVED UP!!!!!

Since I retired from teaching 15 years ago, I seldom get any colds.  I believe my practice of using baby wipes to wash my hands while I am out and about during the day has kept cold germs at bay.
