I went yesterday for my screening mammogram. In less than an hour the patient portal had my results. I need a diagnostic mammogram on my right side with possible ultrasound. I went through this last year and ended up having a bioposy. Thankfully, everything was fine. This all happened in about the span of two weeks.
Today, I get a call to schedule the diagnostic mammogram and possible ultrasound, and she said the my appointment would be in Oct, the earliest available.
Does anyone think this is a long time to have to wait if they suspect a "possible 15 mm mass" according to the report. Trying not to jump to worry and scary thoughts. Just wondering what others think. Thanks everybody.
Also, to add, this the appointment given to me after my doctor's office called to have it set up. I actually received a call from the dr's office informing me of the results and I'd be receiving the call from the facility doing the mammograms. Thanks to everyone for the suggestion.

That's too long to wait. Call back and insist on getting back in before that. Maybe have your referring doc's office call.

When I went through extra diagnostics following a mammogram, they got me right in for the Ultrasound. However, it was longer to get the biopsy. I couldn't say how long it was though. It was over 10 years ago. I did not get a diagnostic mammogram whatever that is.
Several years ago, they did ask me to come in and get a re-do on my mammogram, but they got me in right away for that.

Been thru this same scenario 3 times over the years, and yes, totally unfair to make anyone wait that long. You should call and complain to a supervisor, I did that last time and got in 3 days.Take a very firm stand. wishing you the best of luck, I know how it feels.

@GabbyAnn I have been through this, and every time they immediately did an ultrasound. That is mental anguish to make you wait for over a month. I would call them and have them work you in, or as has been suggested call your primary care and explain the anxiety this will cause.
They should do better!

A Diagnostic mamm is when they do more compressed xrays to get even better imaging than the first time.

@GabbyAnn Oh yes, its absolutely too long to wait for a follow up. It's hard not to worry. I think if it were me, I would call my physician, explain that you're nervous about waiting that long and can they call the diagnostic center to speed up the process and get you in sooner.

At the very least I would ask to be put on a cancellation list.

Yes, definitely too long to wait! When I got a callback, I got in within two weeks for both the diagnostic and biopsy the same day. I'm glad I did, as I did end up with malignancy and had a mastectomy of my right side last August. Thankfully nothing spread and my surgeon told me I was cancer free. Only have to take Anastrozole for 5 years and that pill for me is brutal with the side effects but better than what could've been!
I wish you the best of luck with everything!

No compassion! It would be agonizing to have to wait that long. I would be very upset and I would let them know it.
