Anybody have any experience with a particular brand adjustable bed? I'm thinking about buying one and during my research I've found that they come with different mattress types, massage or not. Some are returnable, some are not. So, I'm looking for a reputable company to buy from that will not only do the set up but take away the old mattress. They cost several thousand dollars so I'm wondering if they last long enough (the motor) to make them worth the money. Are the motors noisy? I'm definitely going to go to a store to try one out first but not sure who makes a good one. What about Craftmatic? We have one of those sponge type mattresses now and definitely will be looking into latex this time. Thanks for your input.

There are some things I just don't trust when it comes to television- and I don't know if Craftmatic is featured in showrooms. We have a queen Sleep Number that is adjustable-and I love it. It is quiet, and they set it up for you. I don't know about hauling the old mistress away because we bought ours for an unfurnished house. In our primary residence, we have a Temperpedic: I like it, and it does come in an adjustable configuration, which we don't have. The bottom line is that you HAVE to go to the show rooms and try them....the most expensive is not always the best for you. For example, when testing the Temperpedic, we started out with the most expensive one: it was as hard as a rock.......so, by all means, visit show rooms and try them out..... I will tell you one thing that is disheartening however- and I don know where we will end up with the beds we have now, but in close to 30 years of marriage, we have spent BIG bucks on mattresses- and we have been through at least FIVE of them: these were no cheapo discount brands either.....when it comes to " lifetime guarantee" I don't believe it..... warranties mean nothing, be it for stains or stain resistance treatments.......another thing I am hearing about lately is that no matter what kind of mattress you use, it probably should be replaced every seven years..... that's variety lot of money out of the window, but that is basically what h as happened to us. Good luck- but visit the show rooms, but I wouldn't hold my breath over any warranty over 90 days- which stinks- but something is better than nothing...... Poodlepet

Thanks for the response, Poodlepet. Yes, I did hear that the warranty is not what they claim on most of them. What about the electical/hardware parts of it? Any problems? Ease of movement from one position to another. Does it help the condition that you bought it for? I have stiffness in my back and knees that lock up on me during the night when I allow them to be in a straight position too long such as when I'm sleeping. Pillows don't help a lot....either to hight or flatten during the night. Thanks again.

I have a tempur-pedic split king adjustable bed. It also has the massage feature. I never use either feature, but my DH often raises the head of the bed to sleep better. The only con is that the base of each side of the bed is VERY heavy because of the motors needed. We recently had to move the bed out of the room to get new carpet and it was a major task. It is a high quality bed and was expensive, but it worth it because it is great for sleeping. I go to sleep and stay asleep.

May 2013 hubby & I finally invested in a new bed, spent over $5K for a queen split adjustable tempurpedic. First, you're doing yourself an injustice by buying a bed from any TV channel. You NEED to go to a reputable store who knows good info on these and any bed set-up. AND you MUST try bed out yourself by in person checking them out, laying on them then make your decision.

We certainly did not need to buy an adjustable but I'll be honest in saying that salespeople REALLY encourage you to invest in these once you lay on one and try it out. I'm sorry we did buy an adjustable - they're freaking expensive but we did it anyway. The mechanics on our bed is not noisy (head raises as do the feet but it does not adjust in the back area. We did not spend much time in our bed as you can imagine. We do raise the head portion when we retire b/c we watch tv for awhile before we both fall asleep so to invest money in an adjustable is really pretty cra cra. It's nice don't get me wrong but if I had to do all over again, I would not be investing in an adjustable - a tempurpedic, yes but I don't need all the bells & whistles.

I also think it's ludicrous to hear on tv that we should be REPLACING OUR BED EVERY 8 YEARS???? WHO DOES THIS???????????!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We got a $300 free-be deal with our purchase and got a 'free' mattress cover and 2 brand new pillows. The pillows are great - I love them to sleep on. The mattress cover could have been better. These bed are hard to make up too - changing the linens is tough b/c the mattress is really hard to manage alone but I finally have it down.

Thanks, sandy53. Now that's an aspect I hadn't thought about....the heaviness of the motor.

Pink dogwood, thanks, I was wondering if there was such a thing as a queen split. I've been all over the internet and all I've seen are kings which I don't want. Yes, I plan to buy at a bedding store where I can test the bed out and ask questions. You guys are helping me know what questions to ask such as about the "warranty". I also need a company that will set up and move old bed out as well as deliver. Sounds like you didn't need the adjustable bed for physical needs, just better sleeping, huh. I think Tempurpedic is one of those sponge type mattresses? That's what I have now and find that you have to turn it once in a while because it sinks down in places. I think I want a latex type. Thanks for sharing your experience.

Mmsfoxie, the Temperpedic mattress is heavy on its own: I can't change the bed without help.... I can, but it's not easy. The Sleep Number is easy to change and it's the box spring that is motorized-you. Never even touch it. Frankly, I love the adjustability because I have similar issues: degenerative disc disease, I need knee replacements etc.....and my needs seem to change. A few weeks ago, I was fine with a softer setting, but I am having a horrible time with my back as of this writing, and I very much appreciate the fact that with the flick of a switch, the mattress on my side is firm as can be. DH has a different setting all together.....and he does not mind if I elevate the foot, or the head in order to get comfortable....and I love curling up in bed with a good book- in total comfort: head elevated, knees supported and bent.... I like the Temperpedic-I am not totally in love. We had had it for four years and I can feel it sagging a wee bit in the middle-I know darned good and well they probably won't do a thing about it, but I don't know what their policy is. Once again, good luck on your search. Poodlepet

Yes ofc ourse check on the warranty but if I recall it's a good one. Hubby & I have our share of aches & pains but I will say that now between the new bed and great pillow (I think it's a tempi "Cloud") I for one do not wake up with any(more) aches or pains. It is one of those very compressed foam mattresses, firm but not hard as a rock. Comfy in my book. Truth be told on the queen split, we didn't buy one at the onset of sale. Delivery guys could not get the one piece motorized frame up our steps to our bedroom. Our home is very old, original plaster, L-shped stairwell but HIGH ceilings to work with. There's a trick to moving things to the 2nd floor and hubby did all he could short of moving it up himself as the lead to tell the yahoo del'ry guys how to turn the frame. Their lead guy who thought he knew everything just said at one point, "that's it, we're out of here. This is not going up" and out the door they went, threw it in the truck and drove off - all after marring my walls, AND knocking out CHUNKS of plaster here and there!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I spent the rest of my day on the phone with our sales guy to trade the one piece queen for the split queen at their expense and to NOT send out those same two delivery guys. Sales rep agreed but we had to wait another week for yet another episode that went smoother.

They del'y guys did totally set up the new bed and left with our old box springs & mattress. In the long run I guess we did make out on the deal b/c the split frames are way more expensive.

BTW, I am in fact in the process of fixing my old plaster walls where those yahoos gouged out chunks and am re-painting the entire area, changing the color too, to a nice neutral called Ponytail but looks café au lait. I'll be glad when I'm finished so I don't have to look at those gouges any longer!!! LOL
