"told by her doctor she should take a good multivitamin with iron, she is anemic."
Her doctor did not recommend any? No samples to start her off with?

My husband cooks practically everything in cast iron. I'm sure we get our appropriate amount...LOL!

Thanks for the replies, she has crohns and so has to be careful with her diet...right now she has no active disease but the anemia is an issue.
I will tell her about the food diary if she has a flare she will know what to eliminate.
I highly recommend that your niece research “chron’s and carnivore diet.” This kind of nutrition has been shown to heal chron’s and it is also high in iron. There is a lot of info available on this and a simple Google search will bring it up.

If she's over the age of 21, believe it or not, a small glass of Guiness can help. A friend was advised by his doc when he had an iron deficiency.

She asked me for advice...the one thing I did tell her is to cook with cast iron but I was no help in the vitamin with iron, any suggestions? thanks.
Vitamin C helps with the absorption of iron in the body. Tell her to eat vitamin C rich foods such as fresh red bell peppers and tomatoes.

Iron rich foods, she can Google to find out what they are, is best option along with a multi vitamin with iron. Although, some people do not absorb iron from food easily. Which is my problem. I was not seriousy anemic and your niece probably isn't either. If the vitamin doesn't work, they'll advise her to take over the counter iron supplements. I take them three times a week and my iron levels stay in the normal range. Many women who still menstruate need iron supplements.
