Intermittent Fasting! Key component maintaining weight goal. Highly recommend investigating *IF* Helps more than most realize internally. Favorite subject! Never gets old Do not forget importance of fiber and elimination. Imo not discussed enough. Looking forward to everyone's journey.
Will never do fasting, as I have chronic migraine and if I do not eat something 6 hours after my last meal, a scathing migraine will descend upon me.
So, a word of caution to those with migraines: think about this, before you decide to fast. When I went to my terrific migraine doc in San Diego, she handed me a humongous questionaire. The very first question was something like "Do you get headaches if you skip a meal?"
It's a physiological and neurological matter to consider, if you are headache prone.
I was wondering when the first ‘never, won’t, couldn’t’ thread would pop up.
As @SeaMaiden stated,
“We do not have to agree on those things, but,
people should feel free to bring things up without
someone getting in their face about it.“.
I feel when someone is directly tagged & the comment is
negative in tone referring to that’s poster viewpoint,
it’s kinda...’in their face’. If someone doesn’t agree, move on.
The topic of migraine was not mentioned in @Sweet_Serenity’s post,
so it really shouldn’t be the topic of an opposing viewpoint.
Serenity was just expressing what works for her....and we should
support her & others within this forum no matter what the program.
@sidsmom I agree with you in principle that we need to support each other. However, it is also true that not everything suggested works for everyone - and that's OK too.
I looked at Intermittant Fasting and it sounds interesting and I think I may try it - but I also agree with sfnative that there are cautions. I read that diabetics may have an issue with it for example because blood sugar levels may be affected by fasting. I don't fault her for bringing up the migraine issue because someone who is susceptible might not realize that fasting is triggering an onset - and try to soldier on unnecessiarily.
I know we can all be champions for what has worked very successfully for us - and letting others know is a good thing. I am starting a plant based diet largely because of what others here and elsewhere have said about the health benefits for example.
If someone is actually posting misinformation in an effort to slam a suggested approach, then I support calling them out, but I really don't think that was sfinative's intent.
Also want to say that I really appreciate the information you have posted on plant based eating - it has been very helpful to me.

I agree that there are many approaches and plans to provide healthy eating, but with each of these plans an individuals must take into consideration health concerns, etc. We are diverse individuals and a plan that worked well for some may not for us.

Think you misunderstood IF. Never starved in fact lifestyle based on whole foods rich in nutrition and volume. Before PBL never satisfied.
Exercise using various activities walking daily, elliptical machine few days a week and swimming indoor pool. Why not start walking? No equipment needed. Easy does it, Do not stress your body.
Your photos are lovely!
Yes, the foundational lesson everyone can learn from
your example is....Plants Are King.
Intermittent Fasting & Movement are wonderful additions,
but the key for Health inside & out is/was/always will be....Plants!
Everyone, no matter what dietary plan, needs the addition of plants
for optimum health.
The more, the better.

As I noted before, I'm starting this because my numbers - bp, chol, sugar are up from last time and my doctor was recommending a statin - which I do NOT want to take. What is very encouraging is that in researching this, I found a pamphlet from Kaiser (my ins) that recommends whole food plant based eating - to help with just my issues. Hooray! Maybe the medical professionals - some at least - are finally getting on board with more natural methods of dealing with health issues.
Don't get me started on the arguments I had with my doc about refusing to take HRT during menopause.

I appreciate your thoughts with the PB diet. Great!
‘Misinformation’ is in the eye of the beholder.
This thread is not about teaching others...it’s just about individual
posters stating what works for them & the QVC community
supporting them. Believe me...it kills me to see posters struggle
when I know there’s a better way, I would LOVE to respond
but in this thread, it’s not our position to point that out to
individual posters. It’s just all about support.

I've been plant-based eating for more than twenty years.
I've been interval fasting for that long but only because I've always known the weight benefits of eating a light, early supper and then just sipping hot tea for the remainder of the evening. It works for me.
I really like warm, vegetable soups in the winter. I add beans or lentils or split peas or whatever I feel like.
I like the Morning Star crumbles to use as fake hamburger in chilis or tacos. Hunry Girl has a recipe for a stuffed pepper that I love.
I've had to be careful to remain thin my whole life. I have some joint weakness in my knees and ankles. I just can't carry a lot of weight.
As I said, everyone on this thread seems so kind. I like to offer the things that work for me in the hopes it will help someone else.
Another tip I have is to only search recipes while you're eating! If I think about food in between meals, I get hungry.
Anyway, good luck to you all!

Good Morning To Everyone! 01/03/2018
It is 8 AM.... it is just getting light out , so,I can go for a dog walk. Yesterday I had grocery shopping to do... so I did not get my walk in....came home, put everything away and cycled for 30 minutes in the afternoon. Not enough, but, I wanted to get something in. I watched my food portions, watching my portions and eating less than what I WAS prior to this challenge. M easured out my walnuts for my salad rather than just tossed them on my salad. I was looking at 28 grams of walnuts and felt a little sad...: ![]()
but, when I ate my salad it was enough! I just need to tell myself that I do not need a big handful of walnuts. I can do with less. I guess that is my share for today:
YOU CAN DO WITH LESS and be satisfied!
I have a question for @sidsmom.
I eat a lot of plant foods and raw nuts ,fresh kale etc in my diet. I am very conscious of what I eat. Low/ no sugar etc.n No oil... just the whole avocado the raw nuts etc to get my healthy fats. I steam everything I cook.
I do eat twice a week a small portion of wild salmon... and sometimes I have chicken breast or turkey breast on one day a week. These protein's are always steamed( as is all my cooked foods, steamed only).
Two days a week usually I will just have raw salad or steamed vegetables...and raw nuts or tofu sometimes a serving of chick pea pasta perhaps or some other bean pasta( which is high fiber and protein) . I also on occasion have plain Greek yogurt with only 3 grams of sugar( milk sugar) per serving and is a great source of protein. I have no milk allergies at all.
I can not see how having some other protein's that are animal based rotating in the diet would be of harm? I know you are a total plant based diet individual and know a lot about diet. What do you think of my diet( not to compare it to yours) incorporating other protein's on rotation from days I eat only plant based? Is it a negative and if so how?
I guess what I am asking you is, why is a healthy protein of say wild salmon considered not a food you would eat? Is it more that you are a NO animal protein person period as you do not want to kill living things...... or do you think it is just not healthy? I respect your answer because you are so knowlegable on this subject. I just enjoy a variety of foods and do not think I would be able to go 100% plant based
I think your answer may be of help to others wondering the same thing. I look forward to your explanation. ![]()

I am tickled pink you are adopting more & more of
the Plant Based Lifestyle! And I am humbled by your words.
Thank you so much.
Honestly?
I hesitate to do an ‘Opinion Piece’ to answer your questions
on the way of eating I’ve chosen. IMO, this thread is not about that.
My gut says, once the doors open for strong & opposing popular
opinions, IMO the thread will kinda/sorta lose the uplifting intentions
I believe you have for this thread.
I will respond, but within the “Plant-Based News” thread.
How’s that?
That way the thread won’t stray with opposing viewpoints.
Out of respect to you, I wish to keep your thread as supportive
as possible!!!
See you over in the Plant-Based News thread....🌼💛🌼

Here is my check in for 1/3/17. I am hoping to be able to do this every day even though I may not have much to say, but this thread is about encouragement. I awoke this morning, put on my workout clothes and went outside and did my 30 minute walk.
I am being mindful of my food intake, and trying to clear out items in the house. I plan on grocery shopping in a few days, and my basket will be junk free. One of the things that I know about myself is that I can't have junk food in the house. If it's here I will eat it.

@sidsmom 0h, did not mean to offend. Please forgive me! I was truly interested in your opinion as I value it. I just felt like perhaps if I learned more about your chosen way of eating, I could make the jump and commmit to that. I think I am very close to making such a choice.
I think your idea of a plant based diet thread is terrific! I will be over there and learn more at that time.
Thankyou for sharing on this thread as well. People are interested in your knowledge ![]()
