The USA is the only country on the planet silly enough to let millions run over the border with no control whatsoever.

I don't blame any other countries for controlling their borders.

We are swamped with illegals!

Re: Travel to England

[ Edited ]

There is nothing wrong about knowing who is coming into your country.  In this day and age, especially since 9/11, I see no harm in taking extra caution. I would have no problem paying the extra fee to enter the United Kingdom considering how much the cost of a vacation would be a nominal amount compared to the cost of the entire trip. I can afford that type of trip, you can afford the fee!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

One of the things that is so great about being an American is we can't fix what the problems are in our own country but we are sure good at telling other countries how to run theirs!!!!!!!!!!!

@Goldengate8361 - There is an application fee for E.S.T.A.

The U.K. is planning to implement a similar program.  There will be an application fee.  It is not an additional "entry fee".  (Calling it an entry fee is simply semantics.)

I see no difference.

I lived in England for 20 years; still have family and friends there.  Yes, it may have its problems, but then so does the U.S.A.

I will also stand by my informed opinion, so we're all good.

I’ve gone thru this process a number of times, sometimes with a fee attached. It’s never been an extremely high amount & it won’t deter me from traveling to UK or any other country that charges a fee for entry.

Heard on the news today that soon if a traveler wants to enter the country, they'll have to request permission several days in advance and pay a fee.

My immediate reaction was, bye, bye Britain.

@Kachina624   Methinks this is all a money grab by our country and Great Britain.  Our tax dollars already go towards Homeland Security.  They are going to nickle and dime us to death for sure.

I have been to Europe twice and if I am ever lucky to go again it would be through a travel agent and they would take care of all those little details.

I saw an article online today that said this fee has been delayed until 2024.  The fee is expected to be about $7 or $8 per person, depending on the British pound conversion rate, and you will be able to fill out the paperwork online.
