Re: Tips for New York City travel

@nyc1@granddi

I as a huge Yankees fan back in the 80s - the Billy MartinSteinbrenner brawl years- went there for opening day, bat day, calendar day etc - when it was still relatively cheap to see a game. Became a fan bc of a Bucky Dent poster - it caused quite a sensation.  Once I got into them - love the rest of the cuties.

I would go to the game - and come right back on the train. I wouldn't wander outside the statium. Better safe than sorry.

PS I love Chicago - I never went there on vacation but saw a lot of Chicago during business trips where I stay an extra day or two over many years. It was there I saw the Cow Parade, Sue the T Rex - Dead Sea Scrolls - King Tut's exhibit - Degas exhibit. I would look up  Chicago's happenings and make it a point to see them. Also went on a tour of Frank Llyod Wright houses in Oak Park. Of course, deep dish pizza at Giordano's.

@Yahooey  OMG...   this poster gave me the best laugh.  I've been living in the northern burbs of Chicago for 21 years.  My husband was born and raised here.  I'm a Queens girl, and worked in the city for most of my life.  You can move me anywhere and I'll still remain a true NYer forever!!!!

Re: Tips for New York City travel

Can anyone suggest a great Chinese restaurant near the Lincoln Center area? How about shopping?

I am also interested in a Wednesday Broadway matinee...how difficult is it to try to get tickets once we are there? Any suggestions?

 Thank you so much everyone!

https://www.tdf.org/nyc/81/TKTS-Live

TKTS locations at Times Square and Lincoln Center (I've ony been to Times SQuare) has shows listed for discount - you wait on line and see what is available on the board

this is what I found this morning

Re: Tips for New York City travel

You can never go wrong with Phanton of the Opera - a classic

I saw Helly Dolly with Bette and Bernadette Peters is in the show now.

http://origin-www.theatermania.com/broadway/discount-tickets/

you can by tickets at a discount -

I have gone t the theater box office and showed them a coupon since I get emails from them. You will have to navigate the site to see waht discounts they offer.

The easiet would be to go the TKTS - but you have may additional options through theatermania (less discounted tickets but more shows).

Re: Tips for New York City travel

Yelp may be more helpful - I put in chinese food in midtown or you can search by another location

@wonderfulworld

shopping by Lincoln Center - not really a shopping meca there

ther eis the Time Warner complex by 59th St Columbus Circle

http://www.theshopsatcolumbuscircle.com/shopping/

https://www.c21stores.com
Century 21 discount designer shopping by lincoln center (not worth it in my opinion) - but the one downtown by WTC is much much mcuh bigger -

Across the street by Eataly

Macys 34th Herald Sqare is a site to behold - it takes up 1 full city block -

they redid most of the building several years ago so the 1st and 2nd fl is grand - 2nd floor all SHOES - I'm nbot a shoe person - but many are

you can walk down 5th ave and gawk at the many stores - Tiffany - Saks - Harry Winston - Carter - Bergoff Goodman - Versace - every high end designer

as someone mentioned earlier - there is a high end food court (Todd English) located right inside THE PLAZA hotel - many food choices for any $$ amount - from entrees to dessert and coffee - The Plaza. is on 5th ave and 58th st - across the street from the APPLE store

you may want to do a notifciation if you want a quicker response - I don't always come on travel but thought you would be here during Memorial Day weekend  so I checked this morning
