Yes, I totally agree with Cape May!!! There is an area called Washington Street Mall and the shops are sweet and the area is not too big. There are benches where you can sit and rest. Cape May also have nice restaurants!! It was our favorite getaway when we lived in south Jersey.

Another Cape May fan here. Been there several times and stayed at a B&B. As others have said, very walkable. And Cape May has really, really, really good restaurants!!!!

Cape May is long way from Colorado and you would need a car to get there

west Michigan on the Lake Michigan shoreline. Fall foliage will be peaking. It's a huge tourist destination for that, so hotel reservations would need to be made like, today. Petosky, Traverse City, Holland. To name a few towns that meet your criteria

That's a part of the country that I've long wanted to visit. I'm in the mountains of NC and our leaves are peaking in early October. I'm surprised to hear that they are peaking in MI at the same time. I'm going to look into that. Not sure if my friend wants somewhere warmer, seeing as how she'll be headed for a cold Colorado winter. We're still at the preliminary stages of planning. Thank you.
Each of us will fly to the destination separately.
I'm sorry that I can't remember which posters recommended upstate NY, CT and New England. I'm a native NYer and I know how beautiful it is in those places. They're definitely on the list.
One thing that will help decide is that we each want a direct flight to an airport. The older we get the more stressful it is to deal with connecting flights.

if Cape May is on the table, about an hour and 45 minute drive from Philly airport.
easy drive, we have done it literally hundreds of times.
cape may is a great shore point and the Fall weather is just the best.
very nice B & B's, great food and very walkable. its flat!!
they have an active shoulder season, so no worries about the town shutting down.

Town - New Orleans
Resort - Pa Pocono Resorts - Ask your travel agent to give you a virtual tour of them all. Plenty to do & most are family friendly.
Personally I love the "spa" resorts (NO CHILDREN). Some have "girlfriend (get away)" rates.

The only negative about Cape May NJ: the restaurant prices are really, really high.
Suggestion: drive about 10 minutes up to North Cape May where the price aren't quite that high. ( Vincenzo's eat in or take out is excellent ). Takeout Chinese in Cape May Court House from the China Inn is outstanding and super reasonable.
