Hop on the free góndola for a ride up the mountain to the McMansion log cabins on the hill.

Those empty patches of land in the valley are there as a community effort to help preserve the valley floor and to keep it 'wild'. It has been the subject of much debate b/c land up there is very desirable and many land developers would love to get their hands on it. It's worth a fortune. Telluride is a quaint little mountain town and the people there (plus the rich and famous who live nearby) want to keep it that way.

It certainly is lovely, but out of my price range.  Google just told me the average price of a home there is 5.3 million dollars.

The changes in the ski areas since my first trip to them in 1978 is unbelievably sad . . .
