@Kachina624 How about La Fonda? Is it still as nice as it used to be? And are the markets great or to be cautious about what is being sold now? And special jewelry shops?

I haven't been to Santa Fe for a long time. There have been a few cases of villians selling fraudulent merchandise but it's rare. Haven't heard of any cases in recent years. It's so important to the tourist trade that there are strick state laws regulating what's sold.
My sister and her daughter are coming next week and Santa Fe is on our agenda. I'll let you know how things go. I've rarely bought jewelry there because Albuquerque's Old Town has the same stuff but better prices.

@Kachina624I have jewelry there from back in the 1980's! I also have things from Flagstaff, Red Earth gatherings in Oklahoma City, and a number of museums! I treasure it all because it is authentic and hand crafted. Hopi bracelets and hand crafted sterling beads are real treasures from back-in-the-day!

Thanks!
I've lived in Albuquerque for 30 years and, based on your preferences, I'd have to steer you towards Santa Fe.

What it has in its favor is that it's as close to a "walking town" as you'll get in this state.
Parking is a challenge, so find a hotel near the plaza. You'll be able to walk to galleries and restaurants.
Historical markers are everywhere. It's an enjoyable stroll: You'll stop, read the marker, then move on to the next. Sculptures. Murals. Lovely trees, shrubs and flowers.

A variety of restaurants.
I had some training there in fall of 2019 and stayed at Eldorado Hotel and Spa. It was close to everything, yet quiet and comfortable.

The Mescalero Apache Inn of the Mountain Gods Resort is a must see. Has six restaurants, five bars and a grand casino. It's a beautiful sprawling place next to a mountain lake and golf course. Located on the reservation near Ruidoso.
