Take a look around at  LLBEAN web site  for great backpacks and totes.  

 

DH is still looking for the perfect carry on, he needs to check this web site himself. 

 

They will replace if you ever have a problem and they mean forever!  Zipper fails? send it back and they will replace it.  I sent a pair of slippers back (lining fell apart) and they replaced the slippers with no questions.   I hope they continue this policy.  <G>

I also looked at REI website and think I found a daypack!  Its a few dollars more than the LUG but BOTH zippered pockets lock, it has RFID slots inside one pocket, soft place for phone, and in the main compartment a pocket for a tablet.  Also has mesh outer pockets and the reviews are good.  Size is very similar to the LUG.  Would definitely fit under an airline seat if one chose to use it that way.  This one is very promising.
