I have to chuckle at ppl suggesting other cities as safer than Detroit. Chicago is one of the most crime ridden unsafe cities in America. And Cleveland-lol, boring as heck. Been to all of them many times.

All large cities have crime.

How long will you stay in Detroit? We have signs there so we do pop in and out a few times each year. Great food, casinos, shopping and Motown Records, and one of the oldest aquariums in the country, Greektown is a great way to spend several hours. If you are only going in for a day or two you will find plenty to keep you busy. If loonger then include Mackinac Island!

Actually, if you look up the statistics, Chicago has a LOWER crime rate than Detroit...

I grew up north of Detroit and now live north of Chicago.  I used to love going into Chicago but am a little more cautious now...also, other big cities...too bad.

As far as Detroit goes, not sure it is the best girl trip but depends what you are interested in.  If you do want to go to the area, you might consider going to Dearborn.  Stay at the Dearborn Inn and visit Greenfield Village and Henry Ford Museum.  Mackinac Island is five hours north but a fun place to visit.

Other suggestions here are good cities to visit...love Charleston, SC.  I will add one more....Galena, IL.  I don't know where you are traveling from though.  Galena is in NW Illinois near Mississippi River.  It is a historical town with good eating and shopping...good girls trip.  Stay at the DeSoto House Hotel...oldest in IL....good food...lots of activities throughout the year at hotel.

Girls trips are such fun.....enjoy it wherever you go!

There are criminals roaming around Beverly Hills.   The only difference is that the crooks WEAR TUXEDOS...

hey let me throw in a plug for West Michigan along the lakeshore. Or as we call it, America's third coast. Traverse City and Petosky were invented for girls trips. Wine tasting tours, classy shops/boutiques, gorgeous scenery on Lake Michigan plus great beaches (salt and shark free), tons of cool bed and breakfasts or hotels. A bit south of there, Grand Haven with similar amenities and arguably the best beach in Michigan.

I live in Chicago and love it.  No worse than many other places in this country.
