Re: Anyone Live In Philly, PA?

@JeanLouiseFinch.  Don't forget Betsy Ross' house.  It's near the Liberty Bell.  Cute little house.

Philadelphia Art Museum is also impressive.

One of the best things in the area is Longwood Gardens which is some distance from the city but well worth the trip.  It's decorated to the max at Christmas, especially spectacular at night.  You need reservations now.

So glad you mentioned Montgomery County !  Growing up there was Wally's Steaks in Conshohocken....never had a steak sandwich that came near theirs and I'm 81 now !!!

I t was a relatively small place and the 3 women behind the counter never stopped working....this kept the crowd moving.  The volume of  large take out orders was a good indication of the quality.

My dad would bribe his three daughters to help him wax his car by promising Wally steak sandwiches when finished !!!

PS: finally visited Spring House to thank them for their providing meals to folks who were caught in the " no SNAP benefits " budget disaster.  Charming place.  Did you get there for your birthday ?

These are all good ideas.  I will add The Barnes museum and Calder Museum around Museum circle.  Also The Sky Bar atop the Four Seaons Hotel near the Art Circle- fantastic views all around.  Open @ 2:30pm but check times. Have a wonderful trip!

So, what are your plans for Lancaster ? The Rockvale and Tanger outlets are wonderful and no tax on clothes and shoes. Q had a huge outlet store in Rockvale at one time but closed it, I got many a beautiful piece of jewelry in there, I miss it. and lots of nice clothes too. Lots of great dining places in Lancaster , some are smorgasbord type places, best one of the lot is Miller's, it is amazing !! They also have some nice hotels in the area and some Amish tours.  Nearby Lititz also has sone nice spots like a pretzel fctory tour and a chocolate factory tour. Lancaster also has its own theater with some nice live productions

@jlkz  So glad you got to the Spring House Tavern! No, I didn't get to go because DS had something planned at a new "top rated" Chinese restaurant in the area. It was a disaster! Probably too early after opening. Who knows? I'll let you know when I am able to get to the Spring House.

my daughter lives there and she is a foodie.....if you like any particular foods OTHER than cheesesteaks let me know. if you ask ten people where their favorite philly cheesesteak place is, you may get ten different answers......yes PATS, GENOS, TONY LUKES are almost always on the lists. my son LOVES dallesandros! my new favorite is SHAYS!  you should also try a roast pork sandwich!

we love walking around the city when the weather is nice.

PARC has a wonderful breakfast!

van leeuwen ice cream

the franklin institute is a must see. the mutter museum is quite interesting. eastern state penitentiary, rodin museum, reading terminal market, betsy ross house, christ church, independence hall, the liberty bell.......these are some of our favorite places. philadelphia has a rich history......so much to see!

put on some good walking shoes, dress warmly, and have fun!
