I would love to get an Echo, but I'm going to hold out until there's a choice of voices for it. I want my Alexa to sound exactly like Chris Hemsworth. Until there's such an irrelevant preference menu, I'm not interested.

I have the Amazon Echo and i love it, i got it when QVC had it for 5 easy payments around Christmas & i believe it was the same price as Todays Special Value.... It came with the custom skin & the 2 audio books.  Amazon also has the Echo on 5 easy payments, only difference is its $10.00 more.

They add features on a weekly basis. I heard a rumor voices were coming. I'd like a nice plummy British voice, like a butler. Or that guy who played "Lurch" on the Addams Family.

"You rang, Madam?"

"Yes, I certainly did! And don't make me repeat myself. Turn on the lights in the dungeon, fire up the tea kettle and play "Toccata and Fugue in D Minor" --on the organ with E.Power Biggs, mind you, not you on that blasted harpsichord. "

QVC definitely has the better deal today anyway.  You also get a sleeve with you have to buy separately on Amazon.

Was thinking of getting it so I went to Amazon to find out how to connect it.  It says that all you need is a WiFi and a smart phone.  I have the WiFi, but not the smart phone.  Why can't it be activated on the computer?

@CLEM

Same reason why I cannot order an Echo.  Not only do I not have a cell phone I am not a member of Amazon.

I went to the Amazon Echo support site & found the following:

"Note: Voice control is not supported for Mac OS X devices"

SUPPORT LINK

"Amazon Echo comes ready to connect to your home Wi-Fi. The Alexa App is compatible with Fire OS, Android, and iOS devices and also accessible via your web browser."

But it doesn't indicate that the Echo will work directly from your computer's browser. confused.gif

Nor does Amazon mention if it does works through computer browsers does it work on Mac OS too?  If so which one?????  Yosemite and/or El Capitan compatible?

I have watched several presentations of the TSV & have yet heard the vendor or hosts mention any of the above or "system requirements."  Not even when callers ask questions, does anyone mention if Echo works on Macs, PCs OS'es.  Or even if you need an Amazon account.

I watched David present the TSV this afternoon, and I understood it would require wifi of course, but in addition a computer, smart phone or tablet.So  Of those three things, I have a tablet, so is that enough?

Yes, a tablet will work. You also need wifi, which you probably have if you use a tablet.

You need the Alexa App downloaded to either a tablet or a smart phone or supported web desktop browsers  to set up the Echo based upon what I read on the Amazon support page.
