So the base costs more than the umbrella, it's the middle of the afternoon, and the base is sold out! Why would you buy an umbrella without a base? Perhaps to replace an existing one, but you'd have to make sure this umbrella fits in your existing base. Weird!

i dont use a base in the two outdoor round tables we have. i just put the umbrella into the hole and there is a ring halfway down that it fits into also. no base needed.

The pole that fits in the base is a standard size and will fit in any base.  There are umbrellas sold in many stores that can be bought without a base.  Its not weird at all.

Guess I don't know very much about umbrellas! But my point was that with a sell out of the base mid-afternoon, anyone purchasing one will have to go through the hassle of finding a base if they don't have one that will fit - kind of short-sighted not to have plenty of bases available IMO
