Hachi: A Dog's Tale  ....this is a less well known movie starring Richard Gere.  It's just so sad, I couldn't stop crying.  It's based on a true story.

I totally agree about Hachi.  I cried so much.  It's originally a Japanese story.  I can't watch it ever again as I get too emotional.

Hachi: A Dog’s Tale

Old Yeller. I saw it when I was a little girl and to this day I wish I'd never seen it.  And any other film where a dog dies (Marley &Me, Turner &Hooch, etc. But Yeller was the worst of the worst).

This is also one of mine - we watched it in Elementary School (last day of 6th grade). Also another tear jerker is "Where the Red Fern Grows" - want to see a bunch of football players crying, watch that one (it was a Saturday afternoon matinee showing, so alot of the school kids were there).

Several non-dog movies are "Beaches", "Love Story", and "City of Angels" with Nicolas Cage as an Angel that goes to earth because he is in love with Meg Ryan.

@debfau   I agree. City of Angels is very sad. 😥

Wow I'm so glad I never saw that movie about Hachi. Not at all what I want to see, enough of that in everyday life to be sad about.

"Hoosiers"  I know it is a good ending, but my "baby" had just graduated after playing high school basketball and was heading to college.

I went to see the film by myself and cried thru almost the whole thing.  I think the correlation of the movie theme and what was happening in my life set me off.
