Re: Snoop Dogg at the Olympics

He is undoubtedly having the time of his life.  Rumor is he's being paid $500,000/day.

I can't figure out why he's there.   I don't see where he adds anything, but then I've never cared for him.

Yes, that’s the reported figure & I’ve never been a fan but his segments are light & funny to me. I also think he is very authentic & in awe of the athletes. He almost has an innocence when he’s learning about a sport or meeting some of the past medalists. I find him very likable & look forward to his segments. I think the athletes enjoy him as well & he may provide some fun & relief in a very stressful & competitive atmosphere.

I really enjoy Snoop Dog. His laid back demeanor is exactly what I need to offset my wired "get it done" personality. I have seen him for years and enjoy his persona. I have no knowledge of his music or songs.

I have no doubt that he is worth every $$ to NBC as a special correspondent.

Ratings have been stellar, with Sunday's ratings twice of those of Tokyo, same comparable day.

He will also likely receive a "ratings bonus", considering his impact on broadcast and streaming viewership.

He's brought in a huge, new audience that previously may not have cared to watch Olympic coverage.

Weekend broadcast ratings are at Superbowl level and Peacock streaming hits have far surpassed any forecast and expectations.

And his compensation isn't all that unusual.  It's just compressed into 16 days.  Mike Tirico, who I love, gets $10.5 million just for football season commentary.

Re: Snoop Dogg at the Olympics

I love Snoop and NBC made a wise fiscal decision to bring him in. I really want one of his pins, one of the best I've seen.

I was born and raised in L.A. and attended the Olympic trials for track and field and the Coliseum. I am over the moon about an Olympic return, and with Snoop in Cali it's sure to be a hoot.

Flava Fav has also been a great US ambassador, particularly for the women's polo team providing financial support for athletes and highlighting the sport.

Re: Snoop Dogg at the Olympics

Snoop's segments are entertaining, a nice change from the analysts & announcers. Can't believe the sum NBC may be paying him. His pins are certainly buzzworthy and clever.

However, I can't help but feel as if Leslie Jones started this genre of an enthusiastic celeb mixing with Olympians during coverage -- and NBC maybe didn't do right by her (such as the Kevin Hart Olympics show on Peacock). It feels as if they took her authentic enthusiasm for the games and what she did in Rio for NBC and gave it to...men. It was announced in May that she would also be a fan correspondent for NBC during these Games, but the deal must have fallen apart somewhere along the way since she's not in Paris. JMO, ymmv.

@Zoe I think you're on to something there. I saw a little snippet of her on a panel and wondered what happened to her having a more prominent role.

Leslie is most definitely part of NBC's Olympic coverage.

She is being paid to live "tweet" on X about many events.

From NBC:  "Jones live-tweets multiple events, playing the role of everyfan. She pays equal attention to smaller niche sports, like fencing, as she does to bigger ones like basketball."

NBC is smart covering multiple social media bases.

She's hysterical!  Of course, you need to access X to see these.

She also has a big  commercial deal Google AI and you have no doubt seen her ads!

Re: Snoop Dogg at the Olympics

And remember that NBC sent Colin Jost to Tahiti for just one event!

I bet that on a cost-benefit analysis basis, Snoop will look like the better investment!
