@kaydee50 wrote:For the first time that I can remember I did not watch the figure skating event. I feel so sorry for that poor girl. IMO, she was told to make mistakes so that the other Russian skaters who were eligible to receive a medal could. Kamila is by far the best skater in the world and it is beyond sad to see this happen to her.

Me too!! In the past, have watched all the Olympic events. This year, don't have the interest nor the enthusiasm to stay on the Olympic channels. Have only watched the couples events and that is all! Loved to watch Nathan, but get tired of the focus on jumps and not the actual lyrical skating.

It didn't cross my mind Kamala threw the competition intentionally. She's only 15 and has been the center of all the conflict that her competing has caused. I can imagine the comments she's seen and heard. The American ice skating team in the stands walked out just before she went on the ice to perform. (Rightfully so). I think between that and just the pressure of being at the Olympics was her problem. Her coach treated her horribly when she came off the ice. Cold and harsh and looked angry. The coach was overheard as saying, why did you give up? The look on that young girls face broke my heart and it's seared into my mind. I watched the whole thing and it was horrible and a disgrace!

Has there been any mention of doping with the other 2 Russian girls that ultimately won the gold & silver? All 3 are coached by the same woman & it seems odd & suspicious that only Kamila would be taking drugs. I wonder if all of them had been using them, but Kamila didn't clear them out in time & tested postive?
I wonder if we'll ever hear of Kamila again, or if she'll just retire & do something else with her life? It's a shame, since she's so supremely talented & the adults around her failed her so miserably.

I think Camila's falls were real due to all of the pressure on her, especially if her coach told her to skate badly. I don't think any skater would fall intentionally.

I was wondering many of the same questions you were thinking. From what I read she was tested on Christmas Day at the Russian finals. I am guessing also that if they are given drugs or "vatamins" from a coach or doctor maybe many of them get the same drugs and it may be a timing issue that she took the drugs too late in the morning to clear her system. I am sure the Russians have doctors and coaches that understand timing and drugs. I also had the thought too that maybe she had COVID recently before that and they wanted to give her something to help her endurance. Or it is always possible that someone else put the drug in her food or drink and she was unware.
I think when she goes back to Russia she will be a hero for this mess. I don't know if you test positive for a banned drug if you are suspended for life? What makes it even more tragic is many thought she was the greatest female skater of all time. It will be sad if we can never see her skate again. I thought if she wasn't banned for life, maybe she could move to the US or Canada and train with a coach here.
Clearly I have spent too much time thinking about this.
I am sure at some point there will be a documentary on it, but we will probably never find out the real truth.

@TurnerGal I wonder if the press/propaganda in Russia even mention the doping scandal? I think I saw where she had flown home right after the ladies' final & was given a hero's welcome when she arrived, which I kind of liked, since I don't think this mess was her fault & she doesn't deserve to be publicly shamed for it. The poor kid lives in an authoritarian country where state sponsored cheating seems to be the norm & she probably just did what she was told.
I saw an interview with Scott Hamilton & he mentioned something about he'd like to see her get away from the coach in Russia & that whole system & perhaps train clean here in the US, & get some redemption.
It will be interesting to see how this all plays out going forward & if anything changes.
