Actor Michael K. Williams, best known for his role as Omar Little on HBO’s “The Wire,” has died at the age of 54.

“It is with deep sorrow that the family announces the passing of Emmy-nominated actor Michael Kenneth Williams,” a representative for Williams told The Hollywood Reporter. “They ask for your privacy while grieving this unsurmountable loss.”

Williams was found dead in his Brooklyn apartment at about 2 p.m. Monday, a New York Police Department spokesperson told HuffPost. The cause of death is under investigation.

“The Wire’’ actor Michael K. Williams was found dead of a suspected heroin overdose in his Brooklyn penthouse Monday afternoon, law-enforcement sources told The Post.

Williams, 54, was discovered face-down and unconscious in the dining room of his luxury Williamsburg pad with what appeared to be heroin on the kitchen table, sources said.

I've seen tributes all over Twitter, he was much loved and respected.

I am sorry to hear about Michael K. Williams passing.  I loved his character Chalky White in the series Boardwalk Empire, enjoyed him in Hap and Leonard, and Lovecraft.  He was an asset to movies and TV and his life cut short.  

He left his mark in the entertainment world with his many roles.  May he be at peace.

Michael K. Williams was such a good actor.  His portrayl of Omar Little in The Wire was excellent. 

I also enjoyed him as Chalky White in Boardwalk Empire.

When he was interviewed,  it was interesting to see him as a person, and every time I found myself liking him very much.

So sorry to hear of his death.

Michael K. Wiliams had an impressive list of acting credits.  I remember him more on TV than in movies but always thought he was one of the best actors around.

Very sad.  RIP.

I never saw his work, that i know of. It's always too bad and too sad, when drugs take a life. Money and fame can't give someone the strength to stay clean. RIP
