Re: Hallmark Movies

[ Edited ]

Once in a while, Hallmark has a movie that's well written rather than the hackneyed, predictable story lines that predominate.  I don't watch their movies much because of the bad writing. There has been some diversity in movies I've seen, but I suppose they could do more.  I find the actors and the sets to be well done.  The script writers leave something to be desired.  I watch The Good Witch.

I would think Hallmark knows its audience, and knows the people who buy and shop at the Hallmark stores and online.  The Hallmark channels are very popular, and its viewing audience has grown.  Good news for people who still enjoy wholesome clean entertainmanet.  If it's not for you, if you're looking for other things, there are all kinds of other channels and networks to choose from.

@walkingal   Wow! Are you saying that adding some diversity would change the "wholesome clean entertainment"? Wow!!

Either that or she thinks there should be separate but equal channels in television.

More of the usual bunch here putting words in someone's mouth that were never spoken or insinuated.

I get enough stressful surprises in my own life just now, so smooth, creamy gingerbread pablum, based on a few comfortable repetitious plots and themes, fills the bill just fine.

I do absolutely agree that a big dollop of diversity would be just fine, though.

All channels have a certain audience they cater to.  I happen to enjoy the beautiful scenery and simple love stories shown in Hallmark movies.  It's sad when others jump on a comment about wholesome entertainment as though something bad was implied. There are plenty of other cable networks that might have things more to your liking, but I'll stick with Hallmark.  I enjoy their mystery channel too.

Has anyone else noticed the lack of diversity on the hallmark movies, love stories, Christmas stories.  I rarely see any minorities.  Are there any love stories with older people.  Never see interracial couples.  Am I missing something?  I have seen some good movies on Lifetime here and there but when I turn to Hallmark it seems to be the same thing even the same people.

Well, would the other side of this coin be that the BET network should have more diversity?  I think a network should do what it wants to do.   If ratings suffer, then it's doing something that needs to be fixed.  If not, then keep on keeping on.  With all the cable networks nowadays, it seems like there are a zillion choices so if you don't like one station, turn to another.

As I posted on the PBS Vietnam thread, I have never been more grateful for this channel to offer a lttle counterbalance.

This is my go to channel now.  It used to be QVC.

I don't want to see old people love stories. Those dating commercials provide all the cringe I can take in a day.

there are times when one does not want controversy. actually, a lot of times (!!). glad i can turn to Hallmark - or to HGTV where all problems seem to be solved in an hour at most.  i can get my fill of other elements on plenty of other channels. all channels don't have to deliver the same product.  thank goodness!

Why would diverse love stories be controversy?
